I have now finished the final draft of the MC006 Prussian Light Troops of the Seven Years War: Part 1 Frei-Infanterie and Militia.
It has certainly been interesting discovering that the Militia operated in Pomerania, Brandenburg and East Prussia in the Kleine Kreig as the Freikorps & Frei-Infanterie with Frederick II in Silesia and Saxony: Ferdinand in Western German.

Now onto Part 2 for the Military Colours series.

I look forward to seeing you at Salute 2018 at Xcel in London on 14 April 2018.

It has been great to get back to writing on the Prussian Army in the 7YW after putting my four other books back in print.

A must-have book. Do you know when it will be available?

Snowcat08 Apr 2018 6:54 p.m. PST

Excellent news!

I already had PRUSSIAN MUSKETEERS OF THE 7YW, so just snapped up:

PRUSSIAN GRENADIERS OF THE 7YW
PRUSSIAN FUSILIERS OF THE 7YW
SMOOTHBORE ORDNANCE JOURNAL VOLUME 6: PRUSSIAN 18TH CENTURY ARTILLERY
SMOOTHBORE ORDNANCE JOURNAL VOLUME FOUR: 18TH CENTURY ARTILLERY

Thanks for the heads up. :)

Cheers

Dear All
The Prussian Freikorps and Light Troops have been shrouded in mystery for me until deciding to look at them in detail. The inconsistencies in uniform is starting to be made clear due to the times when whole battalions were captured and re-raised. New battalions raised etc..

The book will go for proof-reading in a week or so giving me a chance to finish the second part. Then it is to put in the 200+ illustrations and check my descriptions.

The addition of the Militia and Provincial troops only became clear when I looked at the East Prussian, Kurmark (Berlin) and Pomeranian campaigns against the Sweded and the Russians. They performed the same job as the Mercenaries that formed the Freikorps and Frei-Infanterie.

The naming of units has driven me to distraction and will no doubt tax my poor proof reader.

The two volumes will be ready when I have finished them. Probably by July/August 2018. Depends upon how long the proof reading takes.

Any info regarding tactics most commonly used by the Prussian Friekorps, i.e. close order vs open order. That is, how should I base them when the rules I use has different base sizes for formed vs unformed?

Also, just a brief aside here if I may be so bold. Summerfield, is that where you are from or does it refer to something else? My reason is I live in Summerfield Florida, USA and am looking for anyone who might want to get some SYW games going who lives nearby.

His name is Stephen Summerfield.

Thank you Der Alte Fritz, it was a shot in the dark. Where I am in central Florida there are few or no wargamers let alone anyone interested in SYW historicals.

Just to let you know HMGS runs Vic Central FL and we do conventions twice a year. Additionally there is a decent sized group that games all periods in Orlando. 7yw is games but not any where near as much as Napoleonics

von Schwartz12 Jul 2018 6:37 p.m. PST

Thank you mpanko, I will have to look into that but even Orlando is a bit of a trek, I was hoping to find someone closer. I guess I'm a bit spoiled back home in Minnesota I lived 4 blocks away from my local shop and there were 3 or 4 very active groups/clubs as well as large number of individuals unaffiliated who gather fairly regularly. I used to be BIG into Napoleonics first Quarry then Empire 3 which I found to waaay too pro-French and pro-British. If you were Austrian, Prussian, or Russian you could basically mail in your moves with Empire 3 and assume you would lose. I lost interest and moved into other periods such as SYW and 30 Years War. There is a small group here in Ocala who do Warhammer, maybe I can convert a few.
