Are they from the 'Lion Rampant' etc stable, or are they significantly different?

coopman06 Apr 2018 3:15 p.m. PST

Very different. Run fast run far.

Mick the Metalsmith06 Apr 2018 4:42 p.m. PST

Not even very good. Rampant is a lot more fun.

I've played Chosen Men. Really not a bad game – fast and bloody. You don't need many figures (you can play with as little as 25 figures). I think the cannons are a bit overpowered but that's my take.

Very similar to Warhammer with some differences.

Not played it, but those I know who have rate "Sharp Practice" as a better game.

Chosen men has a lot in common with Warhammer Historical's Waterloo (same author). Use a singel figure instead of a stand of figures.

I've played both anf they are very VERY different. No reason why they would be is the same because they are by different people? I don't think osprey makes the rules all match each other so different people write different rules.

I got burned by this with osprey. Massively enjoyed lion rampant but massively disliked many of the other non-rampant games………

For a Rampant variant, there are two options: Eagle Rampant or Rebels and Patriots.

Eagle Rampant was an article run in Wargames Illustrated #342 link , while Rebels and Patriots is a forthcoming black powder variant centered around warfare in North America link

I really like the Pikemans Lament(very fast, no saving throws) so I'm adapting that to Napoleonics (The Fusilier's Lament?). Eagle Rampant is small scale with no artillery – the adaptation I'm doing has artillery and formations – so there's outflanking, enfilade fire and varios ideas stolen/borrowed from Black Powder.
