Very well done. Love the grey

The "simple"…Dull?…colours are the greatest challenge. Anyone can make the Neufchatel lads look good.

These are great. I wish I could get the brasswear on the shoulder belts to look like that. They have rarely been shown here before, maybe because each new version is greeted with a debate about the exact shade of grey, based I suspect on what Ridley Scott showed.

So which one is Carradine? At least Harvey K has not turned up yet.

Meant to congratulate you too on, not just the painting of the horses, but the research to get the different breeds correct. Bays and Chestnuts often confused. The blacks really well shaded. The grey is superb. No whites in the eyes…perfect!

Only thing screams out at me though. Not one has a blaze on the face. ( I try to add something constructive in any comment, rather than just say "cool")

The simplest stripe totally transforms horse faces and a larger marking makes the horse face tackle stand out.

The grey muzzles I have tried, but never get them as good as this. I notice you have used no pink at the lip edge. Neither do I. I have countless photos I work from, but have never got that right. They look like wooden rocking horses when I finish. No idea why. Horses can have very pink lips after all.

OK I may be weird, but I am even more enthusiastic about your horses than the riders (which are obviously great).

Indulge me….. three close ups of his images. Cheek I know, as his copyright, but they illustrate what I will take away from this, as a lesson.

Neck muscles on horses. Not like they are on steroids, which we do see………but subtle yet distinctive…..brilliant (photos are good to take this level of zoom BTW)

As the "customer" for these figures, I'd just like to say I was extremely pleased with them – Rob is the best painter I've yet come across.

Thanks for all the comments guys, I'm really glad you like them.

I have to say I love painting horses and I think most brands suit my painting style really well.
I'm always wanting to improve how I paint, especially horses, so I'm always pushing my painting. I think the miniature can easily become 'overwhelmed' with too much different colour (like pink lips) and sometimes its best to stick to simplicity even though its not 100% accurate.

Hagman, a pleasure as always!
