I don't see "green men" really working here. China has no bases in Taiwan and Taiwanese forces are better trained and prepared. The Trojan Horse was a one trick pony and so was the Crimea.

Plus it helped that the West had no stomach for a confrontation at that time too. I'm not so sure that a similar tactic would work here. Trump seems more willing to confront China than Obama (see the tariffs he recently put on some Chinese goods).

China's ability to pull a "slick one" here seems more limited.

The great majority of Crimeans were happy to leave Ukraine and reunite with Russia. I suspect that isn't the case with Taiwan.
