As a youngin' I read tons of history books from the school and public libraries way before discovering miniatures. (Just in case it is a concern about which came first; chicken/egg.)

Kevin C02 Apr 2018 6:59 p.m. PST

10, which is a good thing considering that I am a History professor.

10 to the tenth power. As for science fiction, maybe a 3, and for fantasy or horror a minus 100.

It's too bad that much of history is not worth loving.

9-10, Sometimes I would rather "x". So not always a 10.

BTW I am actually an official U.S. Army Military Historian, or was until retirement.

Definitely a 10, which is why I earned a Master's degree in history and taught it in both high school and college for 40 years before retiring at the end of last year. Got into minis at a young age, nearly 50 years ago, because of it. There is so much history out there, and so many interesting eras to wargame, I don't understand why anyone would waste his time on anything else. But, "to each his own!" I guess.

advocate03 Apr 2018 5:01 a.m. PST

As a person, 10.
As a historical gamer… not so much.
Because I find myself interested in a period for gaming, then I read about and think… not so much. Either it seems one-sided, or I can't picture the scale of conflict I'd like to game, or I don't like either side…
Take the Spanish Civil War. Characterful, amusing uniforms and weapons. Should be ideal. But was it balanced, really? Do I like either side? Are actions limited to a platoon a side relevant? One day I might do Spanish Civil War; but I'll put aside a fair bit of my historical knowledge if I do, and play it as a game.
