I'm looking to build a collection of characterful miniatures for Operation Sea Lion, and one part of my overall aim was to have a Fox Hunt units, on horseback, in all their glorious pompous garb. I am having a real issue finding anything remotely relevant, and I'm hoping you fine people may be able to help. |

If you don't mind something toy like as a base, I believe the Safari "Toobs" have a set of horses and riders in fox hunting attire. Check in your local craft store. |

If anyone would be likely to make a set, it would be Eureka. But I looked. Nothing. |

Front Rank produce a Napoleonic era mounted gentlman wearing a round hat (top hat) that could pass as a fox hunt rider. Also, under F.R. Brtish personalities; Wellington in a frock coat, BNP1, could pass as a rider along with Picton, BNP5, albeit he is armed with an umbrella. |

Minden makes 18th C civilians, including ladies riding side saddle. The Gentlemen are in wigs and tricorne, though. Fife and Drum carries Minden in the US. Although both are in the general category of "28mm", Front Rank figures are far bulkier than the slim Minden. That never bothers me, though. It may bother others. |

Look at Crann Tara's Georgia Scouts. The headgear looks right, and the conversion work should be simple. The musician is blowing a hunting horn. link |

I was thinking about creating such a unit for my VBCW games. This gave me inspiration YouTube link I wondered about a bunch of red coated cavalry, with a pack of dogs charging into somebody. I wonder how it worked in World War II. Worse than Polish lancers charging thanks. Anyway, notice the prevalence of tophats and bowlers, not like the riding helmets of today. I was thinking of using British cavalry from World War I, or even the perry brothers world war two British cavalry. Just switching their heads. But then who makes tophats and bowlers? If going to combat they certainly would have belting and weapons. Sloppy Jaloppy may be coming out with a civilian a heads. Write to them about a pack of top hats and bowlers. Now, who makes a pack of hunting dogs? |
