""We're going to have to ditch, sir, prepare for a landing on water!" was the last thing that the "Unkillable Soldier" Major-General Adrian Carton de Wiart VC heard from the cockpit of the Wellington bomber that was supposed to be taking him to Yugoslavia.

Some men have no fear of death, while others have no fear of personal injury. One man snubbed his nose at both, which was why he fought for almost half a century; bearing scars from nearly every war he fought in…."

Wow. What a story!

His book, Happy Odyssey, is brilliant.

If his life was turned into a film no one would believe it was true!

There is always some who live for war.
While people like Sherman and Lee talk about war is hell or terrible.
You have people like Custer and JEB Stuart that seem to relish in fighting and war.

To fight [and win] a war … you really need both types … For better or worse … To be effective you need soldiers that are more like "predators" not "victims", IMO. Whether they "like" war or not …

And before the SJW, etc., types come out of the woodwork, I'm Not talking about violating any CGs, committing war crimes, etc., etc. I'm talking about being effective and efficient in fieldcraft, tactics, etc. Even if in a "ruthless" manner, so to speak. E.g. like a properly executed L-Shaped Ambush, clearing a structure, etc., etc.

You are the hunter not the hunted …

Why always political?
This has nothing to do with "SJW"
Modern soldiers are far better "killers" then you're average WW2 soldiers thanks to modern training. And they are from the "SJW generation"

He reminds me of that Monty Python and the Holy Grail part with the Black Knight, "Merely a flesh wound".

My son did multiple deployments and was medivacked 3x, all parts intact though. Most of his action was close up and personal stuff including unarmed HTH. He said combat is better than sex, the ultimate high. He would have re-enlisted but he felt he was getting addicted and didn't want to go over to the "dark side" and spend the rest of his life as a "paid assassin" as he called it. He said a few of his friends have and there is no family or personal life. He turned down $120 USDK for a 6-month assignment as a contractor. I've got him going back to college.

He thinks he's indestructible too. He went through three sets of body armor while deployed. Yes, I worry about him. I don't think he's an isolated case. I'll send him the link to the article.

I was a tank commander in the 1st Gulf War. Even though it was very log ago, there was no feeling in the world like that of being just unleashed to go out and destroy things. I remember it every day. On one hand I would give anything to do it again, on the other I am very glad I never will.

Why always political?
IMO it has nothing to do with political … save for SJWs believe that almost everything PC … Or so it seems.
This has nothing to do with "SJW"
My comments like that I posted on this thread in the past has upset some of SJW which are no longer with us/here on TMP.
Modern soldiers are far better "killers" then you're average WW2 soldiers thanks to modern training
Of course … Better tech and better training, etc., Read "On Killing" by LTC Grossman link
And they are from the "SJW generation"
When does the SJW Gen start ? 1990s ? 2000s ? Later ?
I'd think if you ask some here who served in DS, Somali, the GWoT(which is still ongoing), etc. I don't think many would consider themselves SJWs or even PC … AFAIK ?

Any professional teeth arms soldier who doesn't enjoy going on ops is probably in the wrong job. I love it and it's only being married with kids that no longer makes war the exciting thing it used to be.

Not being married or have kids[AFAIK?]. But both those comments sounds about right to me.
