Interesting article about how Amazon Prime shipping really works

"Amazon Prime's two-day shipping doesn't kick in until the item is actually shipped from a fulfillment center."

"Okay, this makes total sense, especially when it comes to items that aren't released yet or are out of stock. I mean, how could they possibly ship something that's not available? But apparently it also applies to items that are listed as in stock and available for purchase. My game wasn't available in a nearby fulfillment centers, so it had to be shipped from somewhere much farther away. It was still technically "in stock" somewhere, just not anywhere near me. That meant they didn't actually ship my order until Saturday, two days after I had placed the order."

If you are given a ridiculous ship date for a Prime purchase, you can usually complain about it to Amazon, and they will give you 1-2 months added to your Prime membership.

They were awful about this last year. I was always having to dog them about missed Prime shipment dates. It seems to have improved for me personally over the last 6 months or so, though.

I had a similar situation as described above and then they opened a center in my area and the problem has disappeared.

I order from Amazon a lot (being a prime member) and only had a handful of times where shipments were late or not shipped the next day. When they were late it was always some glitch due to weather, when they were not shipped it has always been noted before the order was complete that it was not going to be delivered in two days.

I've found there at really two kinds of Prime. Those shipped from Amazon directly which usually do arrive in two days (if you order early enough in the day) and those from others who claim prime or fulfilled by Amazon for others. Those may say Prime, but as mentioned are only 2-day from the date shipped and does not mean that day.

It is one of those things Amazon has changed over time as they have perfected their supply chain.

My favorite is paying an extra $35 USD for next day delivery, and two days later getting an email notification that it will be delivered in two weeks.

I got a refund for the $35 USD, but they refused to tell me why they offer next day shipping on items they have no intention of shipping for a week.

One of the benefits of living in a small country. Orders usually turn up next day…

No problems. Even get Sunday deliveries.
