I would like to put together a Kings German Legion or two (Waterloo Campaign) and would like to ask members advice on suitable figures / manufacturers to use for this project please.

KGL line troops are indistinguishable from their British comrades. There are some differences in the lights but they are relatively minor – extra shako cords and that sort of thing.

If you plan to do 28mm, Perry is your best bet – although if, like me, you don't like the covered shako, you could use the Front Rank reinforcement packs for the line infantry. Perry do some specific figures for the KGL lights – e.g. link as do Brigade Games in the US which are also very nice
link – GMB and Flags of War both do beautiful sets of colours for the KGL.

If you plan 15mm or, more accurately, 18mm you can't go far wrong with AB and ignore the differences in light infantry uniforms. GMB do the colours.

So your next question should be 'Are Perry and Brigade compatible with each other?'.

And the answer is: "not really".

Can I put in a word for Brigade Games Miniatures? They do the Light Infantry Regts, sure. The chaps in Green at and behind LHS. But they also do something very unusual. A small set of redcoated Line KGL…..the light infantry company! Now you have redcoats carrying rifles and with splendid moustaches.

I think they are very imaginative. Compatibility? I have mixed mine with Perry Plastics and even Perry Metals. They are slightly shorter and definitely less beefy. but I have mixed them and felt it was well within the bounds of variation in human anatomy anyway.

Let me try to find few pics

Sorry, supper called!

Let me show you 52nd again. Mixture of Perry metal and plastic, Brigade Games Min and even some stocky Front Rank around the colours. BGM figures are second in from left, kneeling, the crouching guy behind and the standing firing end of that base. Others further on

picture

A close up of figures that I think work together. Perry shot figure (cap changed) and Perry kneeling firing (both metals). Next two in are BGM metals. I should have sanded the shako plate a bit more!

Finally, I showed this LHS before. I did it first purely with BGM KGL Lights, both recoats and green jackets, but rephotographed with some Perry additions to recreate that famous painting. The two mounted and the running officer are Perry. The wounded and his helper are Perry ACW! Nassau also from Perry. But every other figure is BGM

picture

They are immediately distinguishable, but personally I think they work together perfectly. Much less work needed on the castings and somehow everything seems more to scale, with the more slender look of BGM. Matter of taste of course. I even managed to put some FR figures in but believe me, much thought went into the figures to go immediately adjacent to them
