Maybe I'm misremembering, but I seem to recall a boxed set of 28mm plastic Roman Auxiliary Cavalry being available. Now I can't find any reference to it.

It seems like that would be a product of Warlord or Wargames Factory (back when WF was a thing), but in neither case can I find anything selling such a thing.

Did I misremember? Was there such a thing that was taken out of production? Did I have the wrong manufacturer(s)?

Could it have been Gripping Beast Late Roman cavalry?

It was Wargames Factory. As far as I know, they've not been re-released.

And the Victrix ones will be 100X better than the WGF were. They rode little ponies.

Mars, you do realize that Ancient Horses were small, right?

It was Wargames Factory. I had some and frankly they were a bit crap nasty horses, soft details and strange arm poses.

They'd probably be hard to track down now and if you did they'd be expensive because they are OOP I'd just wait for the Victrix ones if it was me.

I just put together some Gripping Beast Plastic Dark Age infantry, I would highly recommend their kits. Very nice models and a good balance between too fiddly and changeable poses.

Crazy,

So I have heard. I'll look at the models again and compare the Roman sculpture and friezes. Maybe Roman horses were that fat and pony-sized. Perhaps I was probably just taken back by their short stockiness, but too much smaller and they'd be just pulling carts with the mules.

Yes, it was Wargames Factory:

Fairly nice figures, very good price, seemingly accurate sized horses.

The Victrix ones will make them look poor in comparison, I am sure, but WGF will make the price of Victrix equally poor, I am afraid.
