A Massachusetts state legislator is objecting to an entrance to the State House in Boston named after a Civil War general named Joseph Hooker… link |
Cacique Caribe | 20 Mar 2018 4:49 p.m. PST |
Lol. Don't most politicians have such entrances and rooms? They and their staffers use them all the time. Dan

Winston Smith | 20 Mar 2018 5:04 p.m. PST |
It would be more offensive to rename it the "Politicians Entrance". |
Cacique Caribe | 20 Mar 2018 5:11 p.m. PST |
And like the Kennedy secret room in Mars Attacks. Dan PS. Or rename it the "Public Servant Entrance" and leave people wondering what service that might be. |
princeman | 20 Mar 2018 5:13 p.m. PST |
What is wrong with our politicians? I'm getting a belly full of this stuff. |
Winston Smith | 20 Mar 2018 5:18 p.m. PST |
Naaaah. I'm not taking obvious DH bait. |
14Bore | 20 Mar 2018 5:20 p.m. PST |
What did Fighting Joe Hooker do to make these politicians mad? |
Cacique Caribe | 20 Mar 2018 7:11 p.m. PST |
Lovely. I bet the Bostonians who named that entrance of their State House knew a bit more on the matter than does this one particular media junkie born a century after the fact. Dan |
Blutarski | 20 Mar 2018 8:33 p.m. PST |
This is so deliciously absurd as to beggar belief. But MA politicians dwell in a different kind of reality, so I cannot say that I'm by any means surprised by such a pronouncement as this. (….. speaking as a MA native who lived almost my entire life there before recently finding political asylum in another state) B

@Blutarski, By all means do NOT name your asylum (take that any way you please) or it will soon be overflowing with other refugees! |
Bobgnar | 20 Mar 2018 10:10 p.m. PST |
What are the charges against Joseph Hooker That mandate the change for the name for the entrance. He fought against all those generals perhaps not directly but in the army that fought against all those generals whose monuments are getting removed in the south. As it turns out The term hooker does not relate to any prostitutes connected to the general. The term was coined years earlier. He was not a great general, but not a bad one was he? |
Winston Smith | 20 Mar 2018 11:36 p.m. PST |
He was a pain in the ass, a self-aggrandizing blowhard, a hard fighter who lost his most important battle. In other words, a model war gamer. |

Are there separate entrances for other rugby players? |
ZULUPAUL | 21 Mar 2018 2:52 a.m. PST |
OMG when will this nonsense end. |
clibinarium | 21 Mar 2018 4:38 a.m. PST |
Here's an idea; why not change it to "Joseph Hooker Entrance". Wouldn't that suit all? |
bsrlee | 21 Mar 2018 5:37 a.m. PST |
Well, this sort of nonsense keeps them from doing somethings even dumber. |

I think we should just all be grateful the government of Massachusetts has solved its education problems, taken care of the state debt and so reduced poverty that it has time to spare for this matter. |

This post could potentially hold the all time record for getting Doghoused if not flat out Banned! Double entendre, topical political comment, its all there boys! Is Bill short on something to do? |
EJNashIII | 21 Mar 2018 3:43 p.m. PST |
Agreed Trajanus. Is Bill saying it is ok, now to go political? Really, after the last year, you want to give catre blanche? Fun, Fun, Fun. Hookers and top politicians. Funny, but, Really you might want to rethink this. |
Bobgnar | 22 Mar 2018 4:17 p.m. PST |
Well I guess we can't get too political on this, as I get censored for asking what liberal causes this guy was against. my wife says it sounded like I was joking, and only liberals have no sense of humor, so this site is not politically neutral is it . I told her that I have to put up with it is it such a good discussion site. |

Just another elected official with an "agenda" that really has nothing to do with all that is important currently occurring. Makes me wonder, does she not have anything "better" to spend her time on ? To help the people that elected her ? For this reason alone she should not get re-elected, IMO … As Robert posted : I think we should just all be grateful the government of Massachusetts has solved its education problems, taken care of the state debt and so reduced poverty that it has time to spare for this matter. And as we all know Gen Hooker was not a Confederate, but Union. It seems another "jouster of windmills" found a cause/reason to go to work. E.g. "Nero fiddled while Rome burned" … as the saying goes … |

legion 4 wrote – "Makes me wonder, does she not have anything "better" to spend her time on ? To help the people that elected her?" Well, Du Bois is a state representative from Brockton MA, which has a large Hispanic immigrant population. She is known to have alerted her local constituents to at least one impending ICE raid, which I suppose qualifies (in her mind at least) as helping the people who elected her. B |

Am I the only one who read the entire article? She doesn't want the name removed. However, DuBois clarified that she is not objecting to the presence of a statue to Hooker, just that the name of the entrance should be changed.DuBois added that it would also be acceptable to add "Joseph" to the "General Hooker Entrance" name, according to WWLP. |

"General Joseph Hooker Entrance" Works for me! |
capncarp | 04 Apr 2018 5:45 p.m. PST |
"Service Entrance in Rear" might also lead to some unfortunate misinterpretations. |
