I'm having real difficulties finding online information on the Dutch Army of the War Of Austrian Succession period. Hopefully someone can help & point me to some online source. I'd me most thankful.
I'm preparing a Laufeldt 2 July 1747 refight, and thought of also representing the few Dutch infantry present that day. As I don't have a Dutch army (and not planning to do one) I thought of taking the best matching other army (say Brunswickers) and simply exchange the color-bearer. That way, I'll have at least 2 or 3 Oranje banners showing in the line of battle. That should do.

Cheers,
Christian

Knotel, Knotel & Sieg's "Uniforms of the World" Arms & Armour Press, 1980 says of the Infantry at page 326 "In 1730 blue was also adopted by some of the line regiments, and grey (by then almost a white color) was latterly worn less and less. By 1750 only a few regiments still wore it; and finally, in 1753, all infantry regiments were dressed in blue. The only exceptions thereafter were the Scots, who wore red. The distinctive colors were gray, red, madder red, white and yellow. The Swiss regiments wore blue coats like the line. In the mid-eighteenth century the uniform was very similar to that of the British Army."

Hi Christian,

there is a number of SYWA Journal totally devoted to the Dutch uniforms in WAS. Unfortunately I am very far from my library so I can't help you.

Anyway, here there is a good resume:

Christian,

Slag bij Lafelt (Lauffeld).
I understand why you would like to have some Dutch present as they held the centre of the Allied position.

Somewhere among the pages related to the illustrations found on this search you should find the information you need at a blog. There are ‘slagordes' or order of battle among the maps shown on that page.

Slag bij Lafelt in Dutch.

On that same page below is an external link in French covering the battle. You may have this already.

‘De Slag van Lafelt' set to music (I Know), but of interest are the photos of the battlefield which do give a better idea of the landscape. You can set the audio to mute.

There is a restored site linking the old ‘Dutch Regiments' website of 2008.
soldaten.16mb.com/dutreg.htm

Here are the infantry regiments listed from the creation of the Staatse Leger. Following the Garde and Colonial units you will find the ‘Infanterie Regimenten'.

Those IR with a Dutch flag will bring you to another page giving an overview of officers, etc. and important battles.

For the flags, this should give you a leg up.

Royalfig still offers a lot of good information about the WAS Dutch army:

Thanks everyone for your help.
Some of the links don't seem to work. But Robert's Blog articles at least let me suggest I should best go with the Vaubanner flags they are providing. Not much else found. Royal fig for the uniforms is just fine.
I would need the regimental flags of either IR Colyear or IR Marjoribanks, both Scottish "etranger" and IR Waldeck.
I'm much looking forward to this game. It will be the biggest battle ever fought with my miniatures. All my French will be on the table – a near 1.000 figs! Allies may arrive at equal number of figs as I have more figs to the base as with my French. The table will be filled with troops from one end to the other.
It will be one big slaughter feast. Good fun for sure.

Cheers,
Christian

"The Courier" issue No. 59 had an article by Dan Schorr that might be useful: The Dutch Army 1740- 1748. This may be available online from one of the magazine archive sites.

There are also a couple of books in the Helion "From Reason to Revolution" series you might find useful.

Ken,

that'll be great. I found "The Courier #59" online. Inexpesive for PDF download. Just fine. But–does it also cover the flags? Not just organization & uniforms.

Cheers,
Christian
