Little Wars was recently voted as best Midwest gaming convention. What makes this convention the best?

Gunfreak Supporting Member of TMP16 Mar 2018 2:11 p.m. PST

Only small people die in it.

Raynman Supporting Member of TMP16 Mar 2018 2:55 p.m. PST

It's closer to where I live.

princeman16 Mar 2018 3:38 p.m. PST

Well run
Close to many gamers
Great games
Wide variety of vendors
Great venue
Many gamers have been attending for over 30 years
Need more?

1. Number and diversity of events.
2. Well run registration process on site (two minutes and you are in and playing).
3. Nice venue (it's always been at a nice venue, and the latest is quite nice- so none of the odd drama we see around Cold Wars or Historicon)
4. Location- it's always been in the Chicago (general) area, so it's easily accessible by car and (international) airport
5. Good Vendor Hall (though I do miss the glorious vendor halls of the Lincolnshire days)

Bonus- Proximity (This one is admittedly selfish- I don't live in Chicago, but I live about 2 hours away from the event)

Added to my bucket list….😀

not too overcrowded

I am a Gen Con fan but will agree it can be overwhelming to some and its lack of historical content worrisome to others
( hey they can only run games that people propose)

Where was it voted as the best midwest convention?

I personally prefer Adepticon, but I can see where Little Wars would win top honors.

Cyrus +1

Turnout has been somewhere around 600 to 670. In the days prior to 2008 it was as high as 800 to 850.

wargamingUSA22 Mar 2018 6:55 a.m. PST

RKE Steve, yes it was 800 to 850 at its peak… and it is a strong 600-700 now… both better than the couple hundred that bravely showed up during the those dark cold days of dispair out on the steppes of Rochelle, Illinois.

LW usually has a wide variety of games including quite a few kid-focused games, registration seems to run smoothly, decent vendor and flea market areas, typcially some re-enactor displays, and some type of painting class, and since the late '90s has been held at pretty good venues.

Because you can get yourself made into a miniature over at the Minuteman Miniature booth (#20, for those who are interested).

I am looking forward to it again this year.

Running A double blind Battle of Midway and a 28mm First Crusade Battle of Nicea.

Plus some pick up demo games of Triumph in the evenings. It's a great convention and the location is very nice.

It always rains, so you got your excuse why you can't do anything else.
