Does anyone know of a company other than Litko that sells the magnetic base bottoms? I hate their ordering system. I ordered months ago and tried to order today and I'm getting a message that my email address is already in use and I HAVE TO LOG IN TO MY ACCOUNT. I DON'T HAVE OR WANT AN ACCOUNT ON lITKO. I JUST WANT TO ORDER SOME FREAKIN BASES. WHY DOES IT HAVE TO BE THIS MUCH OF A PAIN IN THE BUTT TO ORDER SOMETHING?

I have had excellent service from this company: shogunminiatures.com

I agree with you Dn Jackson. If a company requires me to register then I just move on. I don't see why they need this information unless I am going to order.

I just buy magnetic tape and stick it to the bases.
20mm wide and 10 metres long costs about £8.00 GBP

Great prices on that Shogun Miniatures link.I'd have went with them years back if I'd known about them.

It will all have to chnage after 25 May 2018 …

I have no complaints about Litko's site, but I don't like Litko's expensive craft project bases with weak, ill-fitting magnets, so I looked around for alternatives.

My favorite solution is B Company bases, sold by Good Ground Miniatures. The come fully pre-fabricated and can be ordered in custom sizes. These are basically the same thing I used to get from Renaissance Ink and Bill's Bases.

My second favorite solution is to just do it my danged self. Glue sheets of magnet to sheets of styrene, slice through the magnet to scribe the styrene underneath, then break the styrene along the scribed lines. It's really only about the same amount of work as the Litko bases, and the results fit together much better. Two things to note:

  • This is worthwhile only for rectangular bases; let someone else make round bases for you, if you value your time and your fingers.
  • I recommend against using the rolls of self-adhesive 1" or 1/2" wide magnetic strips. The magnet tends to "remember" the curve it was packaged in, and sooner or later peels off the styrene to resume its curvature, requiring you to go back and glue each magnet to each base individually and clamp them until they dry. Ugh!

Why? That date is meaningless to me.

I glue my based figures to magnetic sheets and cut them out with scissors.

Thanks! I didn't know about this.

I bet this will come as a (probably rude) surprise to a lot of US businesses.

I find it easiest to just order the magnet sheets from McMaster Carr and cut to fit bases.

I prefer the pre cut bases. I'm doing 200 40x20 at a time and don't want to have to cut them out. Are the Shogun bases smooth so I can glue them to wooden bases?

I don't see how that law could mean anything if the company in question is NOT trying to collect user data.

Vigilant16 Mar 2018 6:17 a.m. PST

Dynaman, it doesn't mean anything if the company isn't trying to collect user data. The OP is about a company that is trying to collect data. The law has come about over concerns about the big multi-nationals like Amazon and Facebook, and because of regular breaches of data held by other companies. I don't object to setting up a user name and password (like for this site) but anything else is no business of the site.

Dynaman878916 Mar 2018 9:33 a.m. PST

The way the responses are linked it seemed like those NOT trying to collect data would have to make a change. Those collecting data may have to rethink their policies, and that would be good.

Yup magnetic sheets and scissors work for me. Love litho products but their insane system and data sucking SUCK.

Hoping I have enough bases for the next army from the last order……really hoping……

Check out company B bases from Bill Moreno's company Good Ground Miniatures.

Thanks for the help guys! It is much appreciated.

I usually buy magnetic motorway grade vinyl sheets via ebay. A 1m by 62cm of 0.85mm magnetic usually costs me about £13.00 GBP for the self adhesive version.

I tend to base using MDF and it works very well.

Hey Guys…

I wanted to follow up on this thread and point out that we have in fact upgraded our ordering system and accounts are no longer required to checkout. Looks like this thread started 4 days before the changeover to our new site, but our new site has been in the works for quite a while.

You don't even need an email address to checkout… you can use your phone number.

The new site is also secure only (no http, only https) at litko.net

I'd be happy to answer any questions.
