announced by Helion… 124 pages over 49 colour plates & over 40 photos by Mark Allen Armies and Ennemies of Louis XIV Armies and Uniforms of Western Europe 1688-1714 This book originally saw the light of day as a long running series of articles in Wargames Illustrated in the late 1980's. Due to growing interest in the wars of the late 17th century, the author of the original features has complied them along with new research and made them available again for the first time in thirty years. The book is very much a handbook covering all the major conflicts and battles of the period, it examines how the armies were organised and fought. Each army is covered, with attention paid to specific uniform details, and the colours carried by the individual regiments. |

Excellent news! I collectted WI from issue 1, but threw most of them away, with the exception of those which contained these articles, the originals were quite simply brilliant, so if this is based on those and updated, it will be a must buy. |

£19.95 GBP, 17.96 directly to Helion & Co's website announced for 15th september but there is not yet any card cover so if I understand it is a compilation of previous WI articles, and the 49 colour plates represented the uniforms of several armies or are new artwork? |

yes…Renaissance…nothing new under the sun(-king) all the XVIIth century topics are usually exiled until the «Renaissance» in the miniaturepages as there is nothing between Renaissance and XVIIIth century, at least for this title I can share it with the XVIIIth Century board, not the same chance with the 1675-1679 Scanian War |

Does that mean he's filling in the blanks? It was mostly French & Dutch, IIRC. Either way, I'm there. I am tired of keeping up with a dozen copies of Wargames Illustrated. They keep getting mixed back in with all the others! |

I have the articles, but this is great news! |

This is great news. Mark's articles were ground-breaking for the period, and a great example of how one person's hard work and skill can inspire dozens, if not hundreds, of collections. It's terrific that those illustrations, and hopefully many more, will be available in a book form. |

Well, if there is no 17th century board, then I apologize to you and redirect my disbelieve to the board structure. Putting even the TYW and ECW into "Renaissance" is hard to stomach. This era certainly deserves more distinction. |

I shall look forward to it's publication. |

I painstakingly photocopied the articles from my copies of WI and bound them together with a mocked up book cover at the front; it has been very valuable when painting my Pendraken League of Augsberg figures, as have my Hall books. I shall look forward to getting my hands on the real thing, as it were. |

Sounds good, has anyone see. A draft copy? Will it have uniform d scription for those units not represented by colour plates? |
