Here are some of my favorite scratch-built mine complexes so far:

A) For a table-sized complex with fixed built-in features, you'd be hard pressed to find anything that surpasses what Rob Hawkins did here:

B) I've always wanted to make a modular mining complex using small 6-inch mini square tiles, perhaps like this one here. They would be the easiest thing to store too:

C) However, I've just come across this other very inspiring scratch-built example which uses much bigger tiles, 2' x 2' I think. I guess this alternative falls somewhere in the middle, between the table-sized set up and the small modular mini tile option. And the fact that the tiles are much bigger makes it possible to have a multilevel system:

Man, it really makes me wish I had lots more room for making and storing big terrain pieces. :)

QUESTION:
So, in all your online searches, which SCRATCH-BUILT mining complex(es) have you discovered that were particularly inspiring? And have you put their tips and examples to good use yet when building your own? :)

Dan
PS. I guess the fourth option would be to have individual rock walls and other "loose" features on a board or mat, like I tried to build many years ago:

I used to have GeoHex Cavernscape set that not only looked good but had a grey felt hexgrid mat to place it on

Fantastic. Ditto on the no storage problem. Had to get rid of my 3D dungeon squares.

My wife would kill me if I made tiles like these. She's already after me to get rid of most of my "stuff" as she calls it.
