In battles when flags are actually being carried about, how would they be distributed? British King's and Regimental colours — each carried by a different company, or both by one company? And same question for French Ordonnance and Colonel's colours? |

In British service all colours (if they were present) would be carried by the Colour Company. This is a small discrete group seperate from the fighting companies. I would expect the frogs to be similar. In most wargames rules it would make little difference as long as you had them somewhere in the unit, head of column or centre of line. |

I don't think I've ever heard of a 'Colour Company', at least not in this context. In the British Army it was, and is, called the 'Colour Party', wasn't it?. It comprised just the two colour-bearing ensigns and two sergeants and always took position in the centre of the battalion, when in line between the two centre-most companies or divisions, and when in column of companies or divisions, between the 4th and 5th company/division (according to Dundas, and I believe also much earlier in the 18th century). |

Company, Party, pretty much the same thing. |

As I recall, the Prussian battalion had five companies. Each had captains, and a colour. For battle, the battalion was formed in four equal-sized companies, and the 5 colors were in the center of the line. The five "fahnen-junker" may have been supported by some sergeants. I game in the 7-YW using 2 colours in my battalions of 48 figures – 16 in 3 ranks, Old Glory '15's. They stand together in the second rank of the unit, one on the left end of the 2nd company, the other on the right end of the 3rd company. First battalion has a colour of the original 5, and one a reverse of that. Not sure how many figures one would need to accommodate 5 colours without looking like one our US high school band flag twirler teams of young ladies! GdeP |

Company, Party, pretty much the same thing. Not really. A company would be about 60 men. A Colour Party about 6. |

A grouping, just different in scale. |
