1) Yes*
2) No. They'd be angered.
3) No. They couldn't care less.

Would they see it as an insult or an honor that we named their Bleeped text-like vessel/probe "Oumuamua"?

Dan
* Maybe we could trick them into thinking it's the name of an illustrious leader on Earth. What a great start to honest relations between our species that would be! :)

3 because we would be in trouble if they did care.

They might if all of a sudden they were known everywhere in the universe as the Oumuamuanians, or something like that, thanks to us.

And what if "Oumuamua" means something bad to them?

LOL. Legion, do all aliens have a universal translator now?

Zephyr1, maybe it's really pronounced Oh-mwah-mwah, like something out of a Charlie Brown cartoon. If so, then maybe the full name is Boom Boom Chick Oh-mwah-mwah, a great kahuna according to some of his faithful.

Oh wait. On second thought, Boom Boom might not be a good name for an asteroid … or a spaceship for that matter.

Cacique Caribe09 Mar 2018 2:43 p.m. PST

I don't see how that 1300-foot long poop-like thing could affect us from so far away but, what the heck, thanks a lot Oumuamua!
