Has anyone found decent source material on this battle; in particular orders of battle? There were also some British cavalry present, although I haven't been able to find out which units?

This map is what I drew up some lists from

The Chernaya is one of the scenarios in the "Bloody Big European Battles!" companion volume to the "Bloody Big BATTLES!" ruleset. You'll find a complete OB there (but at the brigade or division level, not individual regiments).

I believe the whole of the remaining British cavalry was present as a division under Scarlett. It spent the whole battle sitting in reserve alongside its French counterpart cavalry division under Morris. The cavalry were too few and precious to be committed.

Thanks guys; very helpful; Chris I've ordered a copy of BBEB , so your marketing works!

Thanks, Martin. I've passed my appreciation to BBB's Senior Vice President of Marketing and his dedicated team of professionals who composed my message for me. Remember, every little contribution helps towards buying that second helicopter for the BBB superyacht.

I hope you'll enjoy BBEB. I actually think the 4-scenario Crimean War mini-campaign in it is some of the best games I've had. There's also a Balaclava scenario in the BBB Yahoo group files (contra what the BBEB intro says).
