I have these rules and am building ango-zulu war forces for it. I also have a ton of 6mm 2nd Boer war and was wondering if any one has tried using them for this period? |

Hi FM, I think the most important decision you have made is to go small scale with the Boer War collection. My rules will work well if you give yourself the space to really allow the movement that the Boers can sometimes need. Of course, some of the battles were direct assaults on entrenched positions; these are easier, if rather depressing to play out. Cheers, Chris |

With mountains often being a factor, 6mm is an excellent scale if you want to refight the main battles. For anyone else considering small scale Boer War, take a look at Pendraken's incredibly big 10mm range. |

TooFatLardies have a Boer War specific rule set in one of their Specials. Might be worth a look. They did the development using 6mm figures. |

I too am organising figures for this conflict. What figures are you using, particularly models for Boer artillery? As for rules, I am thinking of using Bloody Big Battles: if you visit the Yahoo Group, there are a couple of scenarios for like Colenso and Spion Kop to be played as full battles with 30 or so stands of infantry for the British. The TFL rules would require a lot of figures (a British battalion requires 32 bases of infantry figures) so are perhaps more suitable for smaller actions |

What about ACW Confederates for artillery crew? That's what I intend to use for my Boers with some stones and scrub around the gun to disguise it is not so modern. I would wonder about using WWI guns as I am not aware of Boer guns (apart from the Pom-Pom) having shields, although I am subject to correction. My research discloses that the OVS dress uniform was based on the Prussian/German model, including a picklehaube, although there is no evidence that it was ever worn in the field. Perhaps Franco-Prussian Krupp artillery piece and crew? Also, the Transvaal Staatsartillerie had a service dress with headgear similar to the Austrian ski cap, although it was universally replaced by a slouch hat turned up on the left. Perhaps ACW Union artillery and crew? |
