Alex Proyas' Dark City was released on February 27, 1998. It's one of the overlooked gems of SF cinema. Be sure to see the Director's Cut, as the theatrical version gives away the plot in a voice-over in the very first scene. Some of the effects have aged better than others (it was on the cusp between digital and practical effects), but the moody design work is still stunning. The movie stars Rufus Sewell opposite a rather luscious Jennifer Connelly; the supporting cast includes William Hurt, Ian Richardson, and Kiefer Sutherland. Please, check it out!

Classic example of botched marketing. The commercials tried to sell it as a horror flick.

This is a real winner. If you like Pulp or sci-fi or just great science fiction, this is a great film.

Yes, a really good film. Well worth watching.

A third for Vigilant's view. It is one I watch regularly.

I concur.

Always thought it was S utherlands best work to be honest. I lost track of how many times I have watched it, but I always find something new I missed each time.

I got given the director's cut a few years ago.

A much better version of the film.

There are locations that it shared with the Matrix, too (both had large parts shot in Sydney). No, I didn't work on it, but I have friends who did. They had a great time and Alex Proyas was well liked by the crew.

Jennifer Connelly? Wow, then maybe now I'll finally watch that film.

Gotta admit, she was one of the reasons I watched it. :D

That and Richard O'brien's "It's time" line.
