I'm looking at 1-48TACTIC, because I've always loved that scale in plastic models, and because it is a real scale with real proportions on the miniatures.

I am a little confused as to what to order to get started for a base game, though. Any one German set and any one American stater set, plus the rulebook? Do I need a mission pack as well?

Lucius, I don't believe you need more than the rulebook and some figures (I think there's scenarios, or "game formats" to be included in the rules).

You can ask your questions on the 1-48Tactic forum, and get an exact response from Claudio Berni himself perhaps (if he doesn't see your thread here):
