"Let's face it, a primary reason for these shiny breast-coverings was simply to titillate potential buyers." The buyers would have been a lot more titillated if the women on the covers had been dressed like the canal town women Leigh Brackett described in the text--nothing above the waist but the bells in their hair. But I suppose the Post Office and the Legion of Decency would have kicked up a fuss. Notice how many of those covers list and usually feature a Brackett story? And yes Twoball, a lot of us old timers remarked when Star Wars was new that it was basically 40's or 50's space opera. (And that was NOT meant as a criticism.) |
