When gathering together my Nurgle warband for AOS, I had already spent a good deal of money on models and I wanted to bulk out my plaguebearer unit without having to actually spend more money on plaguebearers.
I noticed GW's easy-to-build 40k Poxwalkers and instantly saw that was what I needed! On a lot of forums the Poxwalkers were talked about as being too 40kish and too science-fictiony to work for AOS. Mainly because the models have modern-looking ammo pouches, boots, hoses, etc. Many people were saying it wasn't worth it because you'd have to do all kinds of green stuff putty work.
I've discovered over the years that sometimes conversions are way easier to do on certain models. These are a perfect example. I found that just scraping off all of the modern bits with an exacto knife and then priming over it worked perfectly. All of the scraped off areas now look like bits of cloth hanging down, or just areas of skin or muscle. It's pretty amazing how well it blends in once it has an undercoat over it.
I also took the exact knife and kind of stressed and flattened down some of the belts and boot edges so they didn't look so futuristic.
So in the end I got an additional 12 Plaguebearers buying two sets of the cheap Poxwalkers. I think it worked out pretty well.
(*Note: These were primed with Army Painter Goblin Green spray primmer.)
