I'm doing British vehicles for 1943 in Italy, with a central focus on Salerno. I have pored through online sources and bought a couple of books. I have a lot of data but it is incomplete.

For example I have pictures of Royal Scots Greys Shermans from front, left and back, but nothing for the right and no source for the standard British camouflage patterns of that date (which weren't the same as used in the desert, where there are lots of pictures).

Never mind how other vehicles looked!

Are there any sources I have overlooked? I see that a booklet was done by a Mike Starmer some years ago, but the email address I have is a dud.

I quite like this one:

Allied Armor in the Battle for Cassino
by Jeffrey Plowman

I don't recall where, but it was a clearance book. Checking today, it's certainly not Amazon, nor Hamilton Books.

Thanks everybody

The Concorde book is a wonderful resource, many thanks. This should get me close enough to the elusive right-side camo pattern. And lots of other ideas.

Dwight – that link to Mike's stuff doesn't seem to work – and I can't find an obvious link on the MAFVA site.

I love the Star decals illustrations – I had found them before. But they are elusive on the right-side camo pattern for Shermans…

Matthew ,oddly the starmer link doesn't work but if you google search starmer allied mafva its the first one that come up with a slightly different url .

Thanks. That gets me onto some very useful stuff about shades of paint and the general principles.

What I was hoping to get access to was a pamphlet Mike did on British vehicles in Italy. He seems to have data on the official recommended camouflage patterns, which I have seen written about a lot, but never seen diagrams from. He used to supply on email request and a small fee.

I'm not sure it is still in print but Vol.2 of Warpaint by Dick Taylor (MMP Green series No.4106)has the camouflage patterns for North Africa and Italy in it.

I have now laid my hands on a copy of Dick Taylor's book, and along with the wonderful array of photographs in the Concorde book, this is the information I need.

Incidentally I looked a bit too hastily at the Star Decals link above, and mistook it for one I had seen before. In fact it contains a couple of Shermans in the new disruptive pattern of 1943, including a picture of the elusive right side!

So thanks everybody. What a wonderful resource the TMP gang are!
