The Sloop by Firelock Games is a really beautiful model. In this article, we take a closer look at the model, provide a "Rigging your Sloop for Dummies Tutorial," and end with some Showcase pictures of the model.

There are other Tutorials out there for rigging a model ship, but most of them seemed to be at a more advanced level than what I was after, so I wrote my own. :)

Your friend painted up one Beautiful model. I would have never thought to go with such a light color scheme and trim. Excellent.
Like you, I think I would be happy to play the ship 'minus' the sails and rigging simply for the more ease of moving figures about the ship.
But IMO, rigging or not, you cant go wrong.
