"Last week, personnel from C Squadron, 1st The Queen's Dragoon Guards (QDG), took part in their penultimate training exercise before they travel to Poland as part of the UK contribution to NATO's enhanced Forward Presence (eFP) deployment in support of Europe's security.

A series of day and night exercises, in sub-zero temperatures on the demanding Warcop Training Area saw the reconnaissance squadron perform grueling live-fire tests, both on foot and from the latest Jackal 2 vehicle, an updated version of the Jackal: the crew has been increased to four and the main armament gun ring moved forward to give it an all-round arc of fire. The chassis has been upgraded, allowing the vehicle to carry a greater payload and armour, and providing more strength for protection against roadside bombs. It also has a larger 6.7 l engine, although this does not increase the speed of the vehicle. The vehicle is designed to protect personnel against roadside explosions and mine attacks. It is armed with a 7.62mm machine gun for crew protection. It can also be fitted with either a .50 machine gun or a grenade machine gun…."
