Evidently, rangers lead the way in the number of exclamation points. I'm left wondering if that warrants any further encouragement. |
Chuckaroobob | 20 Feb 2018 7:03 a.m. PST |
I'd be careful about using I-95 as a selling point. |

It is closer to the geographic center of New England, So It should work for all three Cons |

If the price is right and the area supports our needs, then it should be considered. |

A venue within spitting distance of NYC ain't gonna be cheap. And people from south of DC aren't gonna be happy going north on 95 all the way to NYC. The nearby Embassy Suites hotel is showing room rates of $140 USD per night for a stay tonight; $240 USD per night for the Historicon weekend. Ot also appears to be connected to a parking garage. Doubt that's free . |
Dynaman8789 | 20 Feb 2018 9:59 a.m. PST |
I still say rent a high school with a large gym – it has plenty of room, probably in the budget range of our cheap friends, and bathroom facilities that we deserve. |
Condottiere | 20 Feb 2018 10:23 a.m. PST |
The location is convenient to transportation hubs and international travelers would find it particularly convenient. Hotel prices can vary, but there are often deals year round. Easy in/out NYC means great entertainment and sightseeing, as well as some of the best restaurants in the world. But… the grognards will no doubt chime in and claim nothing beats "Hall Pig." ;-) |
Al Swearengen | 20 Feb 2018 10:30 a.m. PST |
Condottiere no one is questioning the location itself is somewhat desirable. But the pricing may make it all moot and I suspect that will be the case. |
rmaker | 20 Feb 2018 10:39 a.m. PST |
I believe this is a unionized facility. No way the dealers will want that. It means you pay two union guys 4 hours (minimum) each to watch you put up your booth and another 4 hours each to watch you take it down (on Sunday, at least time-and-a-half). Even if they're bottom scale, c.$20/hour, that's $400 USD of useless expense. |

Hey Rangers Lead the Way, do you honestly think the BOD has never given any consideration to all the venues dreamed up by the denizens of TMP? I also think there are not enough exclamation marks! |
Double G | 20 Feb 2018 3:08 p.m. PST |
The convention center is too sterile/loud. The games are too spread out. The food sucks. The attached hotels are too expensive. It's too far from the south/the west and my 4,567 gaming buddies won't go. The load in for GMs's/dealers will be tough. They are union there and you can't touch your own boxes or else they'll tire iron you legs. I don't want to go to the same place three times. There isn't enough cheap food in the area. There isn't enough family stuff to do in the area. It's not folksy enough for me. I'm concerned as to how this will affect the flea market. I heard from a friend who knows this guy whos uncles sister works there and they don't clean the bathrooms enough. Ok, that should cover it. |

I gotta get my eyes checked. I thought the last post was: "They won't let you bring your own librarians." |

Scott, Right, I forgot; I can't bring my own booze to the convention center and not buy it from them as afterall, that's not fair, who are they owning a convention center trying to turn a profit, what nerve. |

I'm still holding out for the Jacob K. Javits Center in Manhattan. With a total of 1,800,000 square feet of exhibit space we can grow the hobby. A great way to take Historicon to the next level. It's close to a lot of hotels and even a cruise ship terminal if you want to take a slow boat to the con. Or you could fly into Kennedy. You could even take a short cab ride and visit the U.S.S. Intrepid, a WWII aircraft carrier. Be sure to check out their Lego model of the ship on the hanger deck. And here is the cool part. The meal tax in New York is only 8.75% compared to a rate of 11.5% in Norfolk, Newport News, Hampton and Portsmouth, Virginia. |

Double G for the win. Until a teamster is required to help him set up and tear down. I'm still holding out for the Jacob K. Javits Center in Manhattan. With a total of 1,800,000 square feet of exhibit space we can grow the hobby. A great way to take Historicon to the next level. Where have we heard that before? |

"Until a teamster is required to help him set up and tear down." Yeah, I'm Italian, so teamsters and myself go together like linguine and clam sauce, they are the least of my worries. We speak the same language, I got this. |

I keep hearing the "Union Shop" grumble, I was at a few shows for work at union facilities and we did all the setup and takedown for our booths without any trouble or need for a union guy to do anything. Methinks some protest too much. |
TheKing30 | 21 Feb 2018 6:01 p.m. PST |
A great way to take Historicon to the next level. Now wait – Historicon did make it to the next level. Ok – I was the next level down. Dudley (better known as "The Dud") and crew really worked hard on that. Heck, he even wants to run on the promise of moving Historicon back to FCC. |

It depends on the facility as far as union involvement goes. At the convention center in Pittsburgh everything had to be dropped at the loading dock hand carted in and out by the union guys. Everything. I can't say for other facilities. |
TheKing30 | 22 Feb 2018 6:09 a.m. PST |
That's cold. Cold? No. Fact? Yes. |
Double G | 22 Feb 2018 9:04 a.m. PST |
At that convention center in Pittsburg, the best selling item in their food court is broken leg of lamb. |
historygamer | 22 Feb 2018 9:18 a.m. PST |
Well, there are a number of cities around the country with the name Pittsburg (CA,KS, and TX to name a few), but the one that ends in "h" has six Super Bowl trophies. Not sure I get the broken leg of lamb joke – a better one would include pierogis and Permanti Brother's sandwiches. Does any other team have six super bowl trophies? ;-) |
Double G | 22 Feb 2018 9:42 a.m. PST |
Nope, no other team has six, but give the Patriots time, they'll get there eventually. The theme of the 2017 PittsburgH Steelers season was "Stairway to seven", was it not? How did that work out for you and the rest of the Yinzers……………….. |
historygamer | 22 Feb 2018 9:45 a.m. PST |
Well, we finished with a 13-3 record and the offense looked pretty darned good. Lost a lot when Shazier went out – thank God he is just walking now. The D was not as good as needed, but then again, given the points being put up by all in the playoffs, I'm not sure what D is anymore. And yes, it was a catch. ;-) And no, we don't deflate the ball. LOL |
Double G | 22 Feb 2018 10:32 a.m. PST |
The way the catch rules are written, no it was not a catch, you have to survive the ground and he clearly did not, no catch. As far as the purported deflated footballs; the only one that was underinflated to any real degree was the one the Colts turned in to the league and the Patriots lit up the Colts defense in the second half in the AFGCC AFTER the balls were reinflated. The NFL spent 6 million dollars on an investigation that proved nothing, Brady was suspended for four games for "being generally aware" that something happened to the footballs. What a farce. |

TheKing30 | 22 Feb 2018 3:35 p.m. PST |
Spoken like a true Pats fan. :-) But seriously… just think of the Pats as they are this year…. the first place losers. |
Double G | 22 Feb 2018 3:36 p.m. PST |
Nope I play it right down the middle, James did not survive the ground, the ball moved, so no catch. Don't hate on the result, hate the rule, it's a dumb rule. If the NFL had found a smoking gun and Brady was stone cold busted, then fine, but they spent 6 million dollars and found NOTHING. Then the NFL double downed and suspended him anyway. There's no mystery/grey area here. And I've been a Patriots fan since 1968, seen a lot and I mean A LOT of bad Patriots teams in the past 50 years. And sorry, your entire franchise was born thanks to an illegal catch; the immaculate reception bounced off of Stallworth and went to Harris…………….nope, back in the 1970's, that was an illegal catch, the ball could not go from one offensive player to another, but the refs huddled after the play and knew if they ruled that incomplete, they never would have gotten out of the stadium, so…………..TOUCHDOWN STEELERS!!! I'm no pink hat yahoo………………. |
Double G | 22 Feb 2018 3:37 p.m. PST |
"First place losers" That makes no sense, but keep trying, you'll come with a good zinger sooner or later. I know you can do it. |
Bowman | 22 Feb 2018 5:08 p.m. PST |
Gotta agree. The Browns are the first place losers. OK enough of the derail. |
