There used to be magazines like Real West and true west that I found fascinating back in the late 60s, early 70s. They had a lot of interesting articles on what life in the west was really like. My subscription to one of them ran out when I went into the Army, and I never renewed. Does anyone know if any of them are still around, and more important, which ones are as good as they used to be? A lot of magazines in many genre just "ain't what they used to be." Thanks in advance.

"True West" and "Wild West" are being published. I see them at the bookstore, but couldn't tell you if one is better than the other. Like gun magazines, they probably recycle the same stuff. Speaking of firearms, there is a "Guns of the Old West" magazine as well.

"True West" is probably the better of the two. Bob Boze Bell, the owner/editor is an expert in the history of the Old West.

I have subs to "True West" and "Guns of the Old West." Had them for several years now. So far no repeat articles.

I appreciate your input. I went to the True West website and signed up for their newsletter. Nice articles. I might subscribe to this one. The factual history of the Wets is much more fascinating than the legendary stuff.

There was another publication you might want to know about, "Frontier Times Magazine," published from 1923 to 1954. Most of the articles were written by participants or witnesses or based on interviews with same. I read some that belonged to my grandparents when I was a kid. The entire print run is available on a flash drive for $129.95 USD. If interested, go to the link below.

I have Wild West, but may sign up for True West as Bob really knows his stuff.
