I have a question concerning Philip Hawthornewate's Napoleonic uniforms book series. Is 1812 uniforms of the Russian campaign the same book as Uniforms of the retreat from Moscow? or are these two different books? BTW, did he ever do a book on Austerlitz uniforms? Thank you in advance for the help.

I have here a 1976 copy of Haythornthwaite's "Uniforms of the Retreat from Moscow in colour 1812" which is the full title.

He also did Unis of Napoleonic Wars, Peninsula, Waterloo, ACW. World Uniform and Battles 1815-50 (that is a real treasure) and French Revolutionary Wars (not got that one) but cannot find a reference to a second book on 1812…

Ah! I see what you mean. "Uniforms of Napoleon's Russian Campaign" is just the paperback version of Retreat, but retitled.

Also appeared as "Uniforms of 1812 : Napoleon's Retreat from Moscow" (might be a US edition?)

Most of his books appeared with changed covers and even titles over the years, but the content is identical.eg "Uniforms of The American Civil War" is the UK title. "Uniforms of The Civil War" is the US version………and yet not a Roundhead or Cavalier to be seen………..
