I've been trying to find an obscure 60's? sci-fi story featuring a crashed cruiser that was SUPPOSEDLY carrying a 'Sun bomb/nova-bomb'…(one per ship)…as part of the fleet's deterrent to it's member worlds/enemy planets….against rebellion…or they'd NOVA the star of that system…destroying all the planets in that system! One of the ships had crashed/been crashed on a desert world with nitrogen atmo…(not class M)….and this was illustrated on the front and continued onto the rear of the book (slipcover?)….it was a really cool looking, extended neck/wedge-ish ship…..and crew members who played 'Go' were a big part of the story and in-fleet champioonships…can anyone help me find this book? |

Nope…..but sounds like a good read! The one I'm looking for also has a 'crashed ship' on the front…..but that is the one the other ship is checking up on. They find that the 'vault' where the ship's 'nova bomb' is kept is EMPTY! Most of the crew died (there may have been a semi-mutiny that caused the crash)….the rest are rescued….and one (or more) of their shuttles are left and parked nearby. The ship is dissolved into nitrogen…like most of the atmo on the planet…rather than leave it behind/empty bomb vault and all. And the search for the 'missing' nova bomb starts. Several crew on each of the ships of the fleet are 'go' champions…which features in the story. The ship sorta reminded me in design of the 'Leif Ericson' model from AMT, if that helps? |

It was TNE2300 who provided the most important link. Dan |
