I recently acquired several Doctor Who DVD's a mix of the earlier Doctor Who's like Tom Baker,Jon Pertwee etc.

And I got to thinking about which Doctor Who was my favorite.

My Doctor Who was Jon Pertwee one reason because he was the first Doctor Who I saw in the 70's on TV also I just like Jon Pertwee in general.

Also he was the first Doctor that did action stuff plus I like the Car he drove Bessie was the name he gave it.

So which Doctor Who is your Favorite?

Jon Pertwee. There are no others.

The only one I've met (at a very small Dr. Who con back in the 80s).

The H Man02 May 2018 4:45 a.m. PST

Jon Pertwee. Numerous reasons, listed elsewhere.

tkdguy17 Jun 2018 6:19 p.m. PST

Old series: Jon Pertwee
New series: David Tennant

That said, I like the other actors as well.

tnjrp17 Jun 2018 11:08 p.m. PST

Matt Smith. Looks a bit alien naturally and had the best scripts.

I don't know if she's going to be my favorite yet, I've only seen 3 episodes.

But I am enjoying Jodie Whittaker as the Doctor.

Finally got to watch the show from (almost) the beginning— alas, many of the first two Doctors' episodes are lost.

Got through William Hartnell's turn. Kudos for starting the character and establishing him as thoroughly quirky and eccentric (setting a standard), but definitely not my fave. Too much "Hmmm, yes."

Just started on Troughton. Not sure yet on his version; have only watched the one episode, which is animated due to the BBC only having an audio track. Can't really judge an actor on that!

Oh, and new series I'm a fan of Matt Smith. Very talented actor, and he can pull off that 1,000 year stare that sells the Doctor as being very, very, old, no matter how he appears.

"But I am enjoying Jodie Whittaker as the Doctor."

Your watching the wrong show. That's not Dr Who.

I can recommend Jon Pertwee (third doctor) as a good start, if not William Hartnells (first doctor) actual start.

Jon Pertwee is the first in colour, has the only fully film story being his first, has all his episodes available, is mostly based on earth to ease new people into it, is surrounded by intelligent professional people (yes, and Jo). It's a great starting point for everyone.

William Hartnells is terrific, so you could do far worse (modern tat) than start here also.

Stand out story.

Dalek invasion of earth, Hartnell.

"Dr Who ended with Sylvester."

True. But that includes Paul McGann then, due to the regeneration.

Really wish they had continued that, no way it could have been as bad as the modern tat.

Hopefully someone will have the idea to get McGann in to do a special EP and continue the classic run proper, ignoring the modern tat entirely.

If RTD hadn't poisoned the well in 05+, or his followers (they all had a turn), he will hopefully do a decent job of it now .

Baker is my favorite and Pertwee is a close second.
