Hello, With no intention on GW bashing, serious discourse only...Does anyone else see a quality decline in recent releases? The new Crimson Fist captain is posed really strangely, and seems disproportionate. The Inquisitor scale Genestealer is no better than the plastic ones made for Space Hulk ten years ago. Its face is comical rather than viscious and scary. Is GW losing some sculptors, or is the company becoming less likely to hold stuff back that normally wouldn't meet their stndards?

Hundvig Fezian18 Jan 2003 8:23 a.m. PST

The Genestealer is an Inquisitor piece, which means it's a Fanatic product. I don't think they tend to get the top-of-the-heap sculptors when compared to the main GW line. That said, they have had a lot of sculptor turnover in the last few years, but I'm not sure that's an usual state of affairs.

Cortez doesn't look too bad to me, although $10 is absurd. Silly "character figure" price jacking...

Rogzombie Fezian18 Jan 2003 8:45 a.m. PST

I think they are trying to capture some of the old look/drama of the very early space marines with Cortez.
There were more dramatic poses back then.

The new Emperors champion looks good though and I love the new vampire assassin for Mordheim.

GW does and probably will continue to create a mixed bag of figs. Some are great some aren't. But then who has a perfect range of figs?

ODoughan18 Jan 2003 9:51 a.m. PST

The Crimson Fist-guy definately look like an early design, like something from the Beaked Helmet Era...

altfritz18 Jan 2003 10:46 a.m. PST

The genestealers have always looked pretty goofy - the Inquisitor sculpt is merely an accurate rendition! The Crimson fist *is* a very odd figure, reminds me a little of the SM that went with Forge World's SOB LE Figure a while back. I really like the new Emperor's Champion and so does everyone else in Canada apparently - the local store couldn't get any because
GW.ca had sold out! :-(

Haven't seen the Vampire Assassin yet...

Rogzombie Fezian18 Jan 2003 11:09 a.m. PST

I should have both the EC and VA on auction next week. Despite how much I hate painting space marines I really liked this guy. Much better than the limited edition.

The Lost Soul18 Jan 2003 11:20 a.m. PST

that captain is as old as the hills.

Talking about new GW sculpts, what's every one's view on the soon-to-be plastic Cadians?

I personally don't like the new look. It's mainly because of the helmets. In the future, GW won't get much money from those people who liked the near-future sci-fi look of the Cadians. Now they're just stormtroopers with a different helmet and no hellgun. Really! That has to be carapace armour they're wearing!

Privateer4hire18 Jan 2003 1:19 p.m. PST

Actually, as not a big fan of GW (but a guy who does give them their due), I like the new Cadians.

Depending on how many they put in a box, they might actually get more people interested in IG since the economically challenged won't be forced to buy Catachans as grunt filler.

I hope they box them at least 20 to a box for $30, though. If they try the Steel Legion packaging (10 figs) for $30, that will be a shame.

Well, so far GW is looking to be 0 for 2 with the plastic Imperial Guard. The Catachans sucked BIG time and the new Cadians look like crap as well. I agree completely with Jakar that the helmets and shoulder pads look really horrible! To me, it won't matter how economical they are, I'm not going to buy crappy looking figures. I don't have any plastic Catachans; looks like I'll soon be able to say the same for Cadians. Too bad, considering how long it's taken them to bring them out.

Having seen the Cadians I'm actually a little glad they haven't brought out plastic Sisters of Battle!

Where can I see the plastic Cadians?

Craig Grady18 Jan 2003 3:09 p.m. PST

Try this for the new Cadians

The cadians look pretty boring, I'm not trading in my praetorians for them thats for sure.
Those lizardmen really looked awful.

I think GW plastics are getting worse, aside from the lotr that is.

But then I'm not a monstrous fan of plastic anyway.

The Lost Soul18 Jan 2003 3:31 p.m. PST

excellent

The Lost Soul18 Jan 2003 5:27 p.m. PST

Personally, i think the miniatures are getting much better! But i'm a really great GW fan for several years. By the way, that Tyranid harridan on that url looks really cool. Just look at the size of that thing!

Crusoe the Painter18 Jan 2003 6:55 p.m. PST

Actually, the lizardmen look damn nice.

The Cadians are 'eh'. They look too much like boxers with lasguns, IE their helmet looks like boxing/martial arts head gear.

But Cortez is a freak! I think it's their second worse sculpt ever, after Lemartes.

I think the new Tomb Kings figures are horrid. I'd rather buy MageKnight: Pyramids than GWs stuff. Barf!

Lukash18 Jan 2003 8:46 p.m. PST

I like the Lizardmen though.

jadedragon19 Jan 2003 12:38 a.m. PST

I don't care, I'd rather buy something else....

altfritz19 Jan 2003 7:27 a.m. PST

Cortez reminds me of the "Karate Kid" - that "special move" the Kid was supposed to use...

BugStomper20 Jan 2003 5:22 a.m. PST

Yes Cortez is a horrible model. It all seems to be down to the proportions of the mini. His thighs are too long, the joints around the arms and shoulder pads is very odd, the powerfist looks wrong as well.

I don't like the new EC either. The figure is too slim and looks female (especially the walking pose). He looks more like a SOB than a marine.

Maybe it's just me but I love nearly all of the Khemri minis. I only have problems with the Carrion. The rest are superb imo!

CauCauCau20 Jan 2003 10:23 a.m. PST

I don't know what they did with the head of the new Khemri giant skeleton. One has that stupid hat and the other has horrible buck teeth. Yikes. But the rest of the Khemri line is really really nice. Especially the tomb kings and the Ushtabi (spelling? big but not giant guys)

Nathan

BugStomper21 Jan 2003 5:11 a.m. PST

Yes the Bone Giant with the "Beehive" isn't great, the other head is still good if you file his brows down to look angry.

alien BLOODY HELL surfer22 Jan 2003 3:23 a.m. PST

I think the Cadians are much better than the Awful 'Rambo' Catachans. They look usable - by which I mean I can use them in my own games (I don't play 40K much) but they aren't the best figures!
I have just recently got hold of 11 untouched sprues (44 figures) of the original Imperial Guard plastics (1990/91) and they look a lot better. I also got the orginal command figures - the ones with the carapce breast plates etc - colonels, generlas, standard bearer. Why GW changed the IG troops I don't know - as they originals were better - imho.

AndrewGPaul22 Jan 2003 12:36 p.m. PST

I like the Cadians. The old metal Cadians, and before that the old-style Guardsmen had the shoulderpads and torso armour, so they don't look too different. The problem, IMO, with the =][= scale genestealer is that it's got the same proportions as the 28mm model - if they gave it more 'realistic' proportions (smaller head, hands, that sort of thing - compare the =][= Space Marine to a 28mm Marine), it'd look better. Oh, and they should have painted it purple. :)

Goldwyrm22 Jan 2003 4:51 p.m. PST

Agree with Crusoe, the Cadian helmets look like boxing helmets or recycled propane tanks. Their poses are very vanilla too. Best of the bunch is the shooting model. That link with the pics...I love that Harridan model.

The Lost Soul24 Jan 2003 12:32 p.m. PST

Like the man says, opinions are like one's back side, everyone has one. Mine is the plastic Cadians are fantastic! Finally, a multi-pose sci-fi trooper in a box of 20 for $1.50 each - bargin! I'm hearing rumors that there'll be plastic heavy weapons teams for both Cadian and the musclebound Catachans as well. The only down side for me is I'm going to have to replace 45 heavy weapons teams in my Catachan army if the teams are as cool looking as I suspect and start another I.G. all infantry company of Cadians to accomodate the new models. :) Thank GW they're in plastic as I'd hardly be able to afford it in metal.

As for the new lizardmen they finally look like something to contend with, not men in rubber lizard suits like the last batch. The new Emperor's Champion is sweet but Cortez, on the other hand, is a bit two-dimensional. Oh well, 3 out of 4 ain't bad.

jupe195524 Jan 2003 2:57 p.m. PST

If the Cadians are actually $30 for 20 I will pick up some. Until I see that price I will believe $30 for 10.
