All things being equal, would you prefer to play a long game or a short game? |

Short. I much prefer the two short games of a One Hour Wargames scenario, switching sides, to the single three hour game I used to play. More action in the limited time I have. |

How long is a piece of string? For a week-night small game 2 hours after an hour of setting up and chatting etc For a weekend whole day game, then 5-6 hours for a large game is ideal |

Long. Also depends on subject. Long means more choices, less impact of dice relative to players decisions. Usually with more troops and space. |

Musch less than 3 hrs is a waste of time. Not enough moves to see any tactical flexibility. Longest game (ON A "Virtual" battlefield thay lasted 150 bounds over several weeks of eveing games. I look back on the long games as being the best. However they demand high levels on concentration and some effort outside the eveing game. I would not want to play them all the time. Plus a medium to short game lets you experiment with different approaches in a more manageable way. |

I prefer games that can be finished in 1-3 hrs, not sure if that is "long" or "short". |

I do both – long solo, short with others… |

All things are NEVER equal. Am I playing solo after dinner? Did I drive three hours to a weekend game? Is it part of a convention, and do I know and trust the host? All things being equal, Bill, what clothes do you wear? In the shower, too? |

All things are never equal. Apologies, Robert, I posted before reading your post. |

4 to 6 hours. No idea if that is long or short. |

Long is defiantly my preference x42 |

I like about a four hour game. |

3-4 hours. I like to put on small, "important" AWI battles, as most of them were. And we use simple rules that give a believable result. If a Cowpens or Bennington game is dragging for more than 3 hours, you're doing something wrong. Note that I said "game". The word "simulation" is not uttered in our club. |

3-4 hours but longer if it is a re-fight of a large historical battle. |

As others have said, it depends on what kind of game. But in general I prefer games of substance where the game warrants the investment in time setting up. So anywhere from 4-14 hours. |

I like to play for 2 to 10 hours, depending on the game. It's also fun to play a really really long game that you leave set up and play for two hours once a week for months. |

I like big games which take a while to play. This two hours and your done is okay for a while, but sometimes I just have to do Borodino at battalion scale. |

Longish – I play quite a lot of short games because I'm time poor. Make me time rich and it's back to epics ! |
