We've had several customers ask us this recently as they try to decide on a certain variant for gaming TSATF. So I'm asking, which is your favorite? I'm partial to The Sword in the Forest and The Sword in the Philippines.

For me it is "The Sword in the Forest" and "The Sword to Adventure."

I'm partial to the original (TSATF – India, NW Frontier,
Borneo, China, Sudan, Egypt etc.)

'Walk wide 'o the Widow at Windsor
for 'alf of Creation she owns !
We 'ave bought 'er the same with
the sword and the flame and salted
it down with our bones !'

So where ever that 'alf of Creation' takes Pte.
Atkins, I'm happy.

But I enjoy all the variants and spin-off's, just
that the original is my fave.

The Sword, the flame, machineguns and grenades

Of course, once I stop tinkering and actually write it down, Flames of Liberty will be my favorite. We've played FIW, Pontiac, AWI, the ‘98, 1812 and do on. I have to paint up some Gubmint troops and more Highlanders and will try Prestonpans.

The main charm for "out of period" TSATF games is how much "out of the box" rules work in most periods.
For instance, Prestonpans. Take away the +1 for close order troops in line, and you get the woeful performance of the British facing Highland Charge. Give them Egyptian morale. Etc.
Like Black Powder, I intend to make each game scenario specific as to specific rules applied.
I may never get it done, but we're having great fun games.

That's of course, EARLY British with the 0 bonus. Once the Army introduced a brand new bayonet drill to specifically counter the Highland charge, then of course the +1 is warranted.

Winston, my gaming group is running an AWI game this coming weekend in Fort Lauderdale Florida. Many of us are big fans of TSATF. We would love to try out and play test your AWI variant. Please contact me if your interested in letting us try it out. You can check out my blog for some various TSATF fun.
Cheers,
JB
