Do you still have fun, even if you lose the game?

Oberlindes Sol LIC Supporting Member of TMP06 Feb 2018 6:19 p.m. PST

Of course. A game is four or five hours of engaging in one of my favorite activities with some of my best friends. What's not to enjoy?

princeman06 Feb 2018 6:25 p.m. PST

Absolutely! Since this is the position I usually find myself in, if I did not enjoy playing I would have been out of the hobby years ago.

79thPA Supporting Member of TMP06 Feb 2018 6:45 p.m. PST

Of course. Miniature gaming is about more than winning.

jurgenation Supporting Member of TMP06 Feb 2018 6:49 p.m. PST

Yep!!

Frederick Supporting Member of TMP06 Feb 2018 6:57 p.m. PST

For sure! Otherwise I'd have no fun at all

Yes, I enjoy 98% of the games I play.

jeffreyw306 Feb 2018 7:20 p.m. PST

Yes

redbanner414506 Feb 2018 7:40 p.m. PST

Often more. Then I get to whine.

robert piepenbrink Supporting Member of TMP06 Feb 2018 7:47 p.m. PST

Usually. When I don't, I start looking for a new game. There are systems bad enough that not even winning is fun.

peterx Supporting Member of TMP06 Feb 2018 8:14 p.m. PST

Of course, I lose at least half the time, so I had better just enjoy the game, the banter, the friends and the frosty beverages.

PzGeneral06 Feb 2018 8:26 p.m. PST

Yup. Sometimes I feel bad by winning! Usually it's when the other guys get hosed by bad die rolls….

zoneofcontrol06 Feb 2018 9:06 p.m. PST

It is always more fun to win, but playing a good game is fun if you win or lose. And… I do a lot of solo gaming so I have a love/hate relationship with winning.

Bashytubits06 Feb 2018 9:06 p.m. PST

I win most of my games but it is hard not to smile when my friends do their woohoo in your face dance.

Doug MSC Supporting Member of TMP06 Feb 2018 9:53 p.m. PST

Winning or losing, I enjoy playing. It is so much fun!

basileus6606 Feb 2018 10:12 p.m. PST

Depends on the game and the opponents.

UshCha07 Feb 2018 2:46 a.m. PST

I hate losing badley. That usualy means I have not given the guy a decent game. The exception is if he wipes you out with unparalled genius. I which case you sit back and learn as your army crumbles to dust.

Other wise who cars who wins, it about the game. In our case its not often we know who is the winner; it is obvious often who played better. But some of the best games are just incredibly interesting stories that keep you on your toes as the battle rages back and forth.

ZULUPAUL Supporting Member of TMP07 Feb 2018 4:00 a.m. PST

I enjoy the game itself. If I lose it usually is because of some bone headed move I made.

Joes Shop Supporting Member of TMP07 Feb 2018 4:32 a.m. PST

Yes, always.

Dynaman878907 Feb 2018 4:44 a.m. PST

I have not won a game in months and keep playing so I must have fun losing.

arthur181507 Feb 2018 4:58 a.m. PST

I don't mind losing as long as there's good company and the game/scenario isn't unduly stacked against my side.
Of course, when I play solo I can enjoy both winning and losing!

jeffreyw307 Feb 2018 5:46 a.m. PST

Losing the game is one thing…losing the painting duel is another… grin

FusilierDan Supporting Member of TMP07 Feb 2018 5:54 a.m. PST

Yes. For me it's about the challenge, the story and hanging out with friends.

Garryowen Supporting Member of TMP07 Feb 2018 7:01 a.m. PST

I don't mind losing at all. I am happy if at least one unit, or one figure in a skirmish game, has done something really cool.

Ceterman07 Feb 2018 7:22 a.m. PST

Absolutely!

PJ ONeill07 Feb 2018 8:43 a.m. PST

If his plan defeats my plan, I have a great time.
If there was no plan and he rolled better than I did, I don't have fun because it wasn't a wargame.

Old Contemptibles07 Feb 2018 9:10 a.m. PST

Usually, but occasionally I don't. We have one player who likes to gloat and belittle the loser in front of everyone.

Sometimes losing can be hilarious especially with a string of bad die rolls. Self deprecating humor is the key. Don't laugh at someone, laugh with them.

Sometimes if I am running the game and the battle/scenario has one side that is clearly going to get the snot beat of them, I will play that side myself. I want to make it a fun game for everyone else.

Personal logo Herkybird Supporting Member of TMP07 Feb 2018 11:51 a.m. PST

I always think if I have fun, that is a win in itself, I hope I am a good loser.

Old Contemptibles07 Feb 2018 12:33 p.m. PST

There are bad losers and bad winners. I don't know which is worse.

John Leahy Sponsoring Member of TMP08 Feb 2018 1:20 p.m. PST

My buddy Ed whupped up on me when we ran Battle at Trebbia using Pulse of Battle. It was ugly. I really got smacked around. It was a good time though. He's a great guy and Pulse of Battle reflected Roman Republican and Carthaginian warfare so well it was impossible not to enjoy it!

Thanks.

John

I don't get bent out of shape if I lose. I just enjoy playing a fun game with good company.
