Hello, everyone.

This is my first post here, and I think from the searching I have done on the ol' Googler, this is the right place. I've already gotten pretty much all of the progress I have made in my endeavor from this very message board, so thank you already!

I am feeling a bit overwhelmed, as I have never delved into the world of miniatures before. I enjoy painting, and have painted many board game miniatures, but am looking to create a custom set for War of the Ring, a board game. However, I feel like I have too high of expectations for someone with such little experience in the miniatures department-- a lot of questions on scale and mixing and matching and the like come up and I second guess myself a lot. I was wondering if you wizards would be willing to help me set up my needs for this.

I am looking to have more of a 'book' feel than a movie feel.

The game consists of the following:

Regular, Elite, and Leader of each of the following:
Dwarves
Elves
Men of the North (based upon medieval militia and scouts)
Gondor (based upon the Byzantine Empire)
Rohan (based upon Germanic Goths)

Regular and elite of each of the following:
Isengard's armies (Uruk Hai and Dunlendings-- Half orcs and wild men)
Sauron's armies (orcs and trolls)
Southrons and Easterlings (combined into one army, Southrons were based upon Persians with mounts and scimitars, while the Easterlings were based upon the Huns)
*Mumakil are required as Elites, due to card text. 10mm scale??

Additional units:
*I am struggling to think on whether or not I want 15mm scale for these as well, or want to up it to the next size (25mm?) They would stick out better in the next scale up, but it may come at the cost of board clutter. Thoughts?

Saruman, The Witch King of Angmar (mounted on Felbeast and not) + 8 Nazgul, The Mouth of Sauron (mounted on skeletal steed and not), Gothmog (orc commander), Balrog

Ring Bearers (Sam+Frodo), Merry, Pippin, Gollum (possibly also Smeagol), Gandalf (Grey and White), Aragorn (Strider and King), Gimli, Legolas, Elrond, Galadriel, Treebeard

These are additional in expansions, and would be the 15mm scale above. however, some I am struggling to know whether 10mm is more appropriate or 15mm, as they should look approximately man sized.

Deadmen of Dunharrow, Giant Eagles, Ents (perhaps Troll sized), Corsairs of Umbar, Wildmen of Dunlending, Giant Spiders

I have found "acceptable" options for most of the above through primarily a combination of Shattered Light Miniatures and Magister Militum, but I am confused with what it means to be in the 15mm scale, and what things would work well as board game pieces rather than miniature pieces. For example, a 45mm to-eye orc may work well in the 15mm scale of a war game, but would not work on the board as it would be too large.

I also am looking for this to have the following:
Several different sculpts in each option-- not 36 of the same orc, but 9 of each of 4 different sculpts for example. (this is a driving factor behind replacing the original game's miniatures).
A different sculpt for each of the Nazgul-- This has been a hard part, as I have not been able to find 9 (10?) wraith-like sculpts that would look good together without repeating a sculpt. I also haven't been able to find a good scale of Felbeast sculpt-- is 10mm right? It should be only slightly larger than a 15mm man. I haven't been able to find anything good here.

I apologize for the amount of text for a first-time-poster, and doubly so if this is not the correct location for this inquiry. Thank everyone for their time!

Try Splintered Light Miniatures
splinteredlightminis.com

Many of the figs are inspired by ME, but they may be scattered through out the various packs. For example these

were inspired by The Hobbit with some obvious substitutions (Like the Dwarf Wizard and female Dwarf Burglar). Don't be shy about contacting David for questions. He's a really great guy to deal with.

15mm Battle Valor games…. some very nice stuff as well.

Unique nazgul may be a tough one to fill…. bend the heck out of them for different posses?

I agree with Splintered Light and Battle Valor, BV has some great figures that would be Rangers and Rangers of Ithilian.

For foot wraiths have a look at Splintered Light's wraiths and specters. link

Chariot Miniatures make a pteredon and a horse mounted wraith. I put the two together to make fell beast mounted wraiets.
