What would you get if you were doing these armies today, now that Sgt. Major Miniatures is defunct and the Feudal Castings lines out of print?

I thought Feudal Castings was sold through QRF? I would use Splintered Light Irish mixed with Picts and a few Saxons

Essex

Here are the former Feudal Castings "Feudal Scots" available from Total System Scenics/QRF: link

Agree with the above.

QRF has a whole page of Feudal Scots figures.

Essex makes generic Dark Ages and early Feudal figures that will work, plus some specifically "galloglaich" figures in the later period that are actually pretty timeless:

The Splintered Light Dark Ages line is a brilliant suggestion. Those are gorgeous figures.

You should also look through the Donnigton "New Era" Dark Ages and early Middle Ages figures. None are listed as Scots, but in the early Medieval period most panoplies were very similar, so many should work perfectly.

I'm not sure how any of these will mix on stands. I think the QRF figures are a bit small and the Splintered Light figs are a bit large, but I'm pretty sure the Essex and Donningtons should mix together just fine.

Also keep an eye out for the return of Thistle and Rose. They weren't great figures, but they did provide my 1990s Isles & Highlands army with some nice pose and panoply variations. And they mixed with the Essex figures pretty well.

Oh, and if you need more variety, mix in Vikings, Saxons, Anglo-Saxons, Anglo-Danes, etc. from your favorite figure manufacturer(s). The lightly armored and unarmored "medium infantry" are a great way to bulk out lots of early Medieval armies with generic figures.

The QRF range is not the old Feudal Castings range. Compare the pics from the archive of the SMM site with the current QRF range

I think it could be the same sculptor though, or at least the new one has referred to the older range – the thegns, swordsmen and archers are very similar poses but the current figures seem to be less wooden in the way they stand – more leg bending for instance.

From the manufacturer database SMM got the Feudal Castings line from QRF.

Nothing on the TSS website to indicate that they have gotten it back.

Definite possibility that the same sculptor was involved based on those poses.

Well, the owner of SGMM was trying to sell off his figure lines. Maybe jeeves can buy them and put them back into the production for the rest of us. :-)

Donnington (Ancient & Modern army supplies) also appears to be defunct.

jeeves07 Mar 2018 9:13 p.m. PST

Donnington's site is back up.
