…After Napoleon by Christine Haynes

"I have begun research on a new book project on the occupation of France by the British, Russians, Prussians, Austrians, and a number of other smaller powers at the end of the Napoleonic Wars. Entitled "Our Friends, the Enemies": The First Allied Occupation of France (1815-1818), this book will examine the ambivalent relationship between occupiers and occupied, particularly in the north-eastern part of the country, where most of the occupying powers were stationed. Viewing this episode as a moment of intense cultural exchange, it will emphasize the role of the occupation in the reconstruction of France and Europe after 25 years of revolution and war."
