Is there a set of Old West miniature rules that takes into account damage effects based on the weapon used???

Asking after reading thru old Avalon Hill "Gunslinger" game rules and wondering if there is a set of Old West minis rules that would model damage based on weapon, but is an easier rules set to play (as hard as tried over the years, just find the Gunslinger rules slow and clunky,so looking for easier faster-playing set that includes what I described above.)

Am liking 6GS for fast gunfights but want to know if something else would cover what am asking about.

Any help is appreciated.

Hi thedrake, can you give an example of what sort of effects you mean? Would varying amounts of damage be enough, or are you looking for something where different weapons cause different types of wounds, with different consequences coming from that?

I'm just getting into Western games, and the only rule set I've gotten on to the table so far is Gutshot. Different weapons have different niches, and have different damage bonuses at different ranges. So you won't likely achieve the same degree of carnage with a derringer as you will with a double barreled shot gun.

Characters have a damage chart of 15 boxes, and as you get into the second and third set of five boxes, the wounded character faces mounting negative modifiers. The main question with damaging is just how fast does it all happen. A shotgun can potentially put someone out of action in one blast.

In terms of ease and speed of play, it's pretty smooth and streamlined. I like it, though I am actually thinking about going in the opposite direction and adding some more complexity to it with some house rules.

If you are looking for a fun, easy set of rules which are reasonably priced, you will want to look at the following:

BK800, BK501, BK502

Hi whitejamest,

<<<looking for something where different weapons cause different types of wounds, with different consequences coming from that?>>>

Yes this is what I am looking for. Am looking at the Gutshot charts and seems very close. Tried to register for their forums to ask about these rules but keep getting an error.

Funny you mention Gutshot – I was just reading my copy this morning. As regards contacting them, patience may be required. Once I wrote with a query, heard nothing, forgot about it, and then, out of the blue, received a reply about six months later, acting as if I had asked the question the day before. It was rather odd.

They seem a great bunch of guys, but I'm not sure Hawgleg is a going concern any more. (Love to be proven wrong, of course!) Best of luck!
