I have Red Sand Blue Sky that has rules for solo playing, but I was really looking fors something even simpler. Do you know about quick and fun rules for gladiators that can be used for solo playing? With some NPC mechanics apart from playing both side?

EC +1
HHH also has a campaign system.

Ludus Gladiatorius is a fun beer and pretzels gladiator game. I believe the box set with painted miniatures is out of print, but the rules should be downloadable for free somewhere.

HHH's campaign makes it more fun if you have a few owners who compete against each other with a limited budget. As stand-alone games, I found that the gladiators tended to pair off, stand fairly close, and then roll for hitting vs. defending, and applying the results. The games tended to look a bit boring. Making the matches mean something over time gives it a Football Manager or Out of the Park Baseball feel. For a one-time game, I found a card game like Kung Fu Fighting to be a more fun fighting game (although I doubt it's as much fun solo).

I almost forgot – the Society of Ancients has rereleased Gladiolus. Might be worth a look.
