Or did I dream it? I only watched the first half of her BBC documentary on L'Anse aux Meadows about a year ago, while I was at the hospital for one of my back surgeries. But I never got to see the rest of the show. Did anyone here watch it? Dan |

I watched it. They did find evidence of metalworking at another site that appeared to date to the Viking era, but it was a bit inconclusive. |

I think that outlines were spotted on satellite images and then investigated. This is a growing area in archaeology as the next step from air surveys due to the high quality and growing number of satellites taking pictures. My read on Vikings in the Americas is that it is likely that they got there, but that there was no major settlement. Hopefully as techniques develop more will be discovered. |

I recall how she was able to spot many potential dig sites in Egypt. Dan |

Maybe she can look in the California, Arizona and Nevada deserts too. I know a guy whose relative supposedly saw a viking longship sticking out of a cliff near the Salton Sea and something about a shield in a gully. And then there was that bit about a run stone and "grave" in a cave that was on one of those Unsolved History shows. Who knows where all they went… |

I watched it too, and agree with Big Martin that the findings were intriguing, but inconclusive so far. |

It could be that the Viking ship in the Salton Sea was a movie prop, I suppose. |

It's supposed to be a Spanish pearl galleon that sailed up into the Salton Sea area when the region was in flood & didn't get out when the water receded. "documentary on L'Anse aux Meadows " I saw a PBS show on the subject. Apparently that was the main settlement, and expeditions went out from there to set up other "colonies" (of which they also found traces of.) |

I'm with Dan. Imagery shows you where to look, and that's important. But it hasn't been found until you have ground truth. Lots of things look true in a photograph. |

Especially with the current computer features for photo editing and "photoshopping", etc. … A picture is no longer worth a 1000 words. It based on if it is a real photo or altered … so = 0 |
