"Warlord Games 1/300th Naval buzz?" Topic

[Buzz being RN speak for a rumour – usually started by Communications ratings like me :-) But this is a 'Gen dit no ' buzz…]

The No Dice No Glory podcast about Warlord Games dropped a pretty broad hint, right at the end, that Warlord Games are scoping entering the WW2 Naval arena with 1/300th scale Coastal Forces genre…

Having all but given up on Mongoose, this may meet my WW2 naval fix requirements…

Anyone heard owt?

I heard a similar rumour,!a game set in the Pacific, not convinced by 1/300 though.

This is novel, the topic originator being DH'd for his initial post.

Wouldn't 1/600 make more sense and make all sorts of plastics usable? Oh, yeah, right.

Would prefer Channel to Pacific as well.

Some 1/300 boats already available from Heroics and Ross.

Some new coastal forces stuff could be interesting, although I hope it is 1/600 scale. I don't really need to get into another scale.

However it turns out, I hope it is better than Blood Red Skies. The free rules for that did not entice me to buy the game.

Looks really good. It's 1/300th Scale with fleets for Germany the UK, Italy, The Us and Japanese. Starter set is plastic S- boats and Vospers. Lots of extra ships coming as add-ons. Bigger frigates, corvettes minesweepers and such. You can see some pictures on the Warlord Games site

From what Ive seen I decided to take the plunge and buy in on it.
The largest Ive really seen so far however, was a converted British trawler and a German flak ship. While I like the idea of 'some' larger ships, anything more than the avg. subchaser and medium sized merchant ships may cause some 'issues'.

First; larger warships and your getting away from the general idea of the game; "Small vessel coastal engagements".

Second; at 300 scale, (IMO look great) but even Vospers & E boats should be just over 3 & 4in. respectively.

Corvettes, est. around 8 in., they'd look good. But toss in a cpl of them and 2-3 convoy ships and you could run out of table space pretty quick.

Just a thought, but 1/350(?) might have been more functional.
Im also VERY curious as to the rule sys.

Yes I talk d to some Warlord representatives back in June at a convention. Info was limited but interesting. Over the following months, I received more info.
Still talking to some reps about different issues.

Re: WL, and Blood Red Skies, the mini's were impressive, the rules.. eh, not excited after the demo game a few guys ran in our FLGS.

I was surprised, when they released the US fighters for Pacific and it turned out to be.. Mustangs!? Yea they fought there (a surprise to me) much later. Realistically, Why Not the F4? I know they are also in lead but still, the 'classic' Zero vs. US Ftr brings to mind the F4.

Anyone know what vessels are included in the British and German starter fleets?

Looks like 12 – 13 vessels, but no details, other than the obvious MTBs/S-Boats for probably half of them.

Anyone know when small merchants might be released, to serve as targets to sink, or vessels to protect?

I'm curious why you say that.

A huge advantage to 1/300 scale is the vast amount of existing wargaming gear in that scale – especially planes and buildings and crew figures, but also troops and tanks and artillery and depots and stuff on shore.

I have my starter set of Cruel Seas on pre-order and am looking forward to it. While not a huge fan of Warlord Game rules, the 300 scale ships look to be very interesting and will mix with my GHQ & H&R and the rules can always be modified or tossed all together.

The table of contents for the rule book was posted awhile back in low-res, but here it is a bit more legible ("Playing a Campaign" sounds interesting – maybe suitable for a scenario generator) -
