So I was at the store the other day and was looking in the toy section at "Transformers" and thought about the size of these guys using 15mm figures as ground crew or defence force vehicles and all. Just how much fun would that be?

I have not played Battletech myself and have see postings about it and was just thinking.

Back in the 1980s, we had to find options for troops and vehicles. My group and a few others used 1/200 or 10mm. At that time the main company was Skytrex moderns.
For 15mm by just looking at the cockpit, you can tell you need much larger mechs.

Would the Gundam 1/100 crew work for you, if painted right?

Yeah Dan those would work great, my thought was would the larger Transformers figures work for the Mecha for Battletech, I guess I may have to get the basic rules for it and kick it around a little.

I started collecting a couple of years ago especially for 15mm Battletech (citytech) skermish style games including a selection of 1/144 scale mechs,15mm troops and 1/100 scale tanks. Ive now got a reasonable sized collection of the older diecast classic Robotech mechs and some more recent PVC Japanese trading mech figures, enough to have Company vs Company games if i choose to. Vehicles and tanks are from all sorts of toy manufacturers but in particular for me Tomy toys and their very useful 1/100th Leopard mk2 was a great little find, as for troop types well they should be anything 15mm from the 1960's Cold War era as their style will fit the bill, then you will need a load of MDF skyscrapers and office/appartment buildings and you should be good to go.
Note: If you want to play later era 3050 + Battletech then some of the MW4 Clicky-tech mechs are very usable in particular the Clan Thor, Loki, Madcat and Vulture and for the Inner Sphere the Uziel, Osiris and Zues mechs which i still need to pick up at some stage… :)

1:100 Bandai Destroids and Glaug pods will give you a number of the old 'unseen' mech designs.

A number GZG 15mm infantry would be good options for inner sphere infantry. Specific BT vehicles are a bit more problematic.

As pointed out modern ranges can be harvested for useful stuff.

I've seen pictures of 1:72 / 20mm battletech set ups and I've seen a 1:35 set up in the flesh donkeys years ago at a show.

So eminently do able!

Fang of the Sun Dougram kits would give you the Griffon, Shadowhawk and Wolverine mechs, and I think the Battlemaster as well.

Why not use the 1/72 models of 'mechs and Ral Partha 28mm infantry?

AVAMANGO28 Jan 2018 1:17 p.m. PST

Fangs of the Sun Dougram kits and diecast toys also did the Thunderbolt, Goliath and the Bushman. Matchbox Robotech toys did the Archer, Warhammer, Rifleman and Longbow. More modern PVC Japanese trading toys you can find Marauders, Crusaders, Stingers, Wasps, Pheonix Hawks and LAMs also Garage resin kits you can find the Atlas and Banshee.

I have some mechafront minis which scale perfectly w 15mm. Other manufacturers blue moon has a few odd ones and ravenstar… has a mid-sized hunchback and a big fella with double cannon arms.

The last two are standard resin. I do like them…but the mechafront offerings are some of the highest quality pieces ive ever seen.

ROUWetPatchBehindTheSofa28 Jan 2018 3:12 p.m. PST

IIRC Ravenstar does something that looks like an UrbanMech.

The page linked below lists a lot of the old mech kits

And you can get a few 1:87 metal kits from Iron Wind / Ral Partha – referred to as Museum scale.

Okay so I am getting a good idea of where to go and get this idea rolling then.

Thank you all very much.

There are actual 15mm 'Mechs made for gaming. The link is on my old, now dead computer, though.
