I love the game. Each campaign (Dunwich, and Carcossa so far) have a starter box that is the same size as the core, which has cards and characters that are used throughout the campaign. then each campaign has something like 6 more individual adventures that further the story.
the adventures definitely have re-play value, since the stories are impressively complex, and the antagonists have a stack of encounter cards that are randomly drawn. the overall story of each adventure will be the same, but can play out very differently with different characters and such. plus, a lot of adventures have different copies of the same cards that you randomize during set up, so there will be some changes. its kind of hard to explain. its and impressively complex system.
as for the core concept of the game, players work together, using their card decks for their characters abilities, equipment, and allies. as your gain experience, you get to add better cards to your deck, which is really cool. the story has 2 components: acts (which the players want to advance for a victory) and agendas (which the baddies want to advance, and they make your life miserable). characters move around locations, find clues, fight or avoid monsters, etc, on their phase, then the mythos phase happens, and players draw from a themed deck of encounters, monsters, etc. in true arkham horror fashion, if you win at all, its by the skin of your teeth, and characters gain madness cards to their decks, and all that good stuff.
i will say that the task resolution system has different difficulties, and the normal mode is very hard! we play easy, because we want to experience the stories, rather than slog through. so yeah, i think its a great game. my favorite in the arkham horror series.
