It was an inevitable and unfortunate clash of cultures. We should have figured out some sort of compromise to make both the Indians and the population expanding westwards happy. The white man's insatiable greed guaranteed that this compromise would not happen. |

There is rarely any good outcome of native peoples vs more advanced cultures. There was no compromise that would allow a nomadic horse culture to continue to exist on the plains. There was a vast number of folks who had little that continued to push the boundaries back in the west. Land was everything. Indians were not removed from pushing, killing or enslaving weaker tribes in their desire for better lands. That's why the Crow among others helped the US against the Sioux. It wasn't fair or reasonable in any way. I'm not sure it could have been. The cultural values were just too different. Pretty sad it wasn't otherwise. |

Back in the early 2000s, we did a military history of First ‘Indian' Nations against each other and then later including European influx. The records were full of conflicts between tribes. So many interesting stories. One was when an Indian Territory, Eastern tribes, militia force fought a large raiding band of Comanche warriors and defeated them easily. They used dragoon tactics. Sobieski, stealing is an unrealistic term. There is no country which does not have records at the expense of weaker neighbors. Study military history for what it is and stop your feeble attempts of passing judgement on campaigns of the past. A close logical study will reveal unknown motivations. |

John Leahy pretty well summed it up. The stone age met the industrial revolution. And despite what many seem to believe, it was a very violent stone age that met the industrial revolution. Unfortunately, I don't think even King Solomon could have found a solution. Tom |

That horse culture of the Plains Indians tribes was a very recent development based on the acquisition of horses from the Spanish – not exactly an ancient way of life. And the tribes of the Pacific Northwest, at least, were as aggressive and rapacious as any white Man. |

People have been invading and taking other people lands since the beginning.I really get tired of people acting like the European/Americans is the only people to do this. Mark |

Those tribes down in Patagonia probably didn't move there by choice considering the desirability of the location. And I rather doubt that if the Eskimos' ancestors had had the chance they would have stayed in the Arctic. |

And that is why we have a military. So Canada or Mexico doesn't steal our lands . |
