…community resilience model

"But since every disaster and every community is unique, a uniform measure for defining "resilience" has been hard to come by for engineers and social scientists.

In a new study, Colorado State University civil engineer Hussam Mahmoud offers an innovative approach to defining resilience that could help communities better prepare for hazards. Integrating a community's infrastructural, social and economic features, Mahmoud's team has created a dynamic mathematical model that quantifies, in space and time, how well a community would withstand a major shakeup -- regardless of whether it's a natural disaster like a flood, or a social disruption like the Arab Spring in 2011.

So people are getting used to superheroes and villains fighting and destroying a chunk of the city each week?

I don't think I would be one of those who gets used to it.

Is resilience simply surviving through a series of disasters (natural, man-made, superhero-made), or is it the actual bouncing back from the disasters?

After a while, some young people raised in the midst of it might get the idea that the constant chaos is a new normal. They might have no memory of the good times, to bounce back to.

At times some academics/intellectuals from universities, etc. may have a "take" on things a little different than what occurs in reality. Now I'm not downing educators, academics, intellectuals, etc. Not at all. Just sometimes on some topics, they may come from a "different" understanding from the realities of the real world.

We see a similar thing with some of our leadership at the highest levels. They both may not know the price of a loaf of bread or living paycheck to paycheck, etc. But as always all POVs should be aired if for no other reason to see the veracity or lack there of.

As far as Batman being fiction … well … that is what he may want you to think … huh?
