Looking for some Battlegroup armies

Puddinhead Johnson25 Jan 2018 8:28 a.m. PST

Plastic Solider Company makes a good range of 1/72 easy to build plastic kits designed for wargaming. I think you can get Plastic Soldier Company 1/72 from the Warstore. I'm sure there are others. Google.

Eureka Miniatures USA has the fantastic AB 20mm WW2 range sculpted by Tony Barton. Those are really the best infantry.

There is also a huge selection of 1/72 (20mm)model kits available that aren't expressly designed for wargaming. Try Michigan Toy Soldier Company. There are many others. Google.

Well, there's a few:

Eureka does the AB line which is both beautiful and extensive, and it is getting bigger by the day it seems. I can highly recommend their stuff for WWII.

There's also FAA, which is a nice set of figures and the company is based out of TX these days, IIRC, but their availability as of late has been hit or miss.

Now, I would also recommend Syr Hobbs, they sell Elheim and CP models figures, which have some nice WWII figures, and I can also recommend Covert Intervention Games who is importing Ehlheim as well, and has the old Force 20 line with some fun figures (OSS and French Resistance to name a few).

I would tell you though, if you want to do some armies, you may have to look abroad, but reach out to places like the Guild, who have a pretty extensive index and helpful folks to point you in the right direction.

I would second the recommendation for Syr Hobbs, if you are looking for our figures and he stocks a few other manufacturers too. So well worth checking out.

Don't rule out off shore orders.

Recently, I ordered one pack of WestWind figures from England and with postage they were $10.00 USD cheaper than the same figures from a U.S. vendor.

The only real downside it the shipping time seems to be weeks not days.

It's too bad about FAA. They have a good range of figures.

Pegasus and Caesar both do plastic French that are worth a look. I have a box of each, nicely detailed and pretty easy to find through US hobby shops.

OP, note that Pegasus infantry is molded in soft plastic. Some people say the paint doesn't stay on soft plastic miniatures as well as hard plastic. PSC's infantry is hard plastic. The others people have mentioned are metal.

The Thoroughbred range, Sojers, was sold to Sgt Majors Miniatures some time back. I understand those along with the regular 20mm Sgt Majors WWII range are in the process of being purchased by a new owner.

Definitely Eureka for AB Figures.

Covert Intervention Games for Force20 figures.

Duane at Syr Hobbs always seems to have something 20mm in-stock.

Lots of places for the PSC and Caesar plastics.

The FAA seem to be impossible to get with any consistency from the new owners.

Wartime in Australia has quite a bit of neat stuff and Matt is pretty good about shipping promptly.

EWM in England has some interesting figs… I think they have the French you're looking for.

Hope that helps.

If you are interested, drop me note of what you are looking for and will gladly do some research for you. With luck I will have it, be able to get it, or redirect you to some place else. I have just completed a full inventory and found our shopping cart is accurate but there is much that needs to be added that are listed as out of stock but are available. Not sure how I fell behind.

cheers
Duane

and thanks everybody for the recognition.

That may have been an issue in the past, but there are plastic primers these days that will flex with the plastic. I've used Rustoleum and Krylon. There's also the tried and true method of using watered down PVA glue.

Here's a good guide. link
