"Star Trek Online introduced uniforms from Star Trek Discovery to the game as soon as the series began, but players have had to wait until now to enjoy the first new ships becoming playable. Available from today, the Discovery Lock Box introduces several key ships from the series, plus some new costumes and equipment. Continue below for the details.

The top prize for Federation players from this lock box is the Crossfield class (USS Discovery), which STO has designated a "science vanguard".

…why?

Kind of a silly question. Why not? ST:DIS, while adding to canon is on its way to being a successful part of the St universe. So..all has yet to be revealed as the plot unfolds…why not do the ships.

This is as bad as adding the 1998 reptile to the Godzilla universe.

For myself I don't do Star Trek Online and now that they're adding those ships I won't even consider doing Star Trek Online simply put I HATE these ships.

Meh, the fed ones already look like STO ships anyway (especially the walker class, which looks like a patrol escort hull with centaur struts).

Not that it matters much for now, since they decided to make the game no longer work with my current graphics card.

Captain Gideon,
I wouldn't let that put me off the game if I were you, these are paid tier 6 (endgame) ships that you'll mostly only see at stations or during raids/dungeons, and the funny thing about STO is that it's mostly a single player game (and a mostly free one at that, I've spent nothing but my time). Just remember to pick your free tier 5 ship well, since (barring "free" T6 event ships) that'll be what you'll fly for most of the game.

Tango01 I stand by my words.

Gokiburi I don't know if my graphics card is good with this game but I'll look into it.
