Theselook great. Question: where these used in the field? Question 2:up to when where these used? |

Thank you gents! @Brownand Q1- Yes they were used, but you have to do some digging. I know it's mentioned at Brandywine and Delaware actions and some ford and river crossing engagements. It's also listed in their armory. As for the manlet's I have no idea if they were used, but they do look interesting and were part of the Perry kit. Q2- They were used throughout the war is my understanding. Amussettes were used up to the early 19th century, but different forms of them continued to be used even up to WW1. An example being the elephant gun. No doubt you will need to do some delving, but there is information on these weapons on the internet that gives an interesting read if you have the time. I'm pretty sure they're also mentioned as used in Ewald's memoirs. |

It may have been in Ewald, but I read a story once about a band of men holed up in a log cabin they fancied to be a fortress. A single shot from an amusette blew in one wall and right out the opposite wall. That convinced them that the log cabin wasn't a fortress. |

Ewald describes an ambush that he set up for some American riflemen that would shoot at his post every morning. he positioned jagers behind a hedge and has the amusette fire on the house driving the riflemen out. The Jagers behind the hedge then killed or wounded every rifleman that fled the house. |

They Jagers definitely used amusettes. The question is whether they used the wheeled carriage, which I am not sure they did. It is my understanding that the amusette and carriage were developed with the idea of deploying on the flanks of artillery to protect them. I can't say for sure these weren't used in the AWI, but I also can't site any specific reference either. Perhaps SM can help out here. It is my understanding that the Jagers, who moved fast as they were light troops deployed in skirmish order, likely would not have used such a cumbersome thing. But if anyone has other information I'd love to hear about it. And great looking figures they are. Nice job. |
